Tawny- my Elizabeth Taylor started out as Elizabeth White, became Elizabeth Parker, then Taylor and then she died! Life was hard in those days :-(

Hi Jem

I have a lady in my tree called Caroline who married her first husband in 1869 and her third husband in 1875. Going with the name of her first husband PALMER.

Her maiden name was Cripps, her second husband was Clifford and her third husband was Major.

Always wondered if she was related to Dr Crippen though.

Hi Tawny- I expect many women were forced to remarry after being widowed, for practical reasons in those days, or it would have been destitution and/ or The Workhouse. We moan about our lot today, but we don't have to experience the extreme hardships that many did then, thankfully :-(

EMPETT- This is a strange one! This family went by not one but 2 surnames at various times over generations- Empett / APPS.. so take your pick! :-D
