Hello, I'm looking at one of my ancestors, James Henry Bagley, he served in the Northumberland Fusiliers, I'm trying to find more detail of his unit, next to his unit it says 517 is this his balltion? One other thing, my great grandad fought in WW2 and I'm trying to find out what unit he fought with, what is the best way to go about this? Thank you

WW2 service records are still with the MOD and are not online.

Have a look here to see how to order them (they cost £30 and take quite some time to arrive usually):-

Is this the record you found for your ancestor? :-

Battalion N/K
Wounded/sick Aug 16
Source SGG
Record set British Army, Northumberland Fusiliers 1881-1920

If so it says that 517 is his army number.
