Thanks for the suggestions..... So if the intended place of residence is "Port Natal - Cape of Good Hope" ....... What is going on??..... What chance of finding anything relating to Mary in India?

Mary Anne Rossiter ... Married John Rossiter.

On the 1901 and 1911 census at Dowds Lane, Clonmell .... Difficult to find as spellings are all over the place.

Thanks for that .... Cape of Good Hope looks good (just need the first line now).
But if correct, why and how would a retiring British soldier be going from India to South Africa instead of home to Ireland ??

Mary Anne Lawler (Lawlor/Lalor) b: 1860's India - as per Irish (Clonmel) census records.
Marriage 1885 Clonmel shows father John Lawler - Soldier.

Trying to find more information about John and his daughter Mary.

Found only one possible - Discharge papers for Private 916 John Lawler (b: c1835 Clonmel) joined 3rd Madras European Regiment 1853 and discharged from 108th Foot Regiment in 1863 at Poonamallee. Only part of discharge papers unable to read is the intended place of residence!! Note that a lot of retiring soldiers stayed on and lived in Poonamallee.

Unable to find any record of Mary in India. Was she born whilst her father in or out of service and where..... Am I going to be able to find any further information and if so how/where.
