Hello Ann, a Chelsea Pensioner record is a bit of a misnomer (if you google Chelsea Pensioners you can find out more). All that record on FamilySearch does is direct you to the service record on FindMyPast:

British Army Service Records 1760-1915

First name(s) SAMUEL
Last name RYDE
Birth year 1878
Birth parish BOLTON
Birth town BOLTON
Birth county LANCASHIRE
Birth country ENGLAND
Service number 4966
Rank -
Regiment King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment) - 4th Foot
Document Type Attestation
Attestation year 1896
Attestation Day 10
Attestation Month 1
Attestation age years 18
Attestation age months 1
Attestation Corps King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment)
Attestation service number 4966
Discharge Corps King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment)
Series WO97 chelsea pensioners british army service records 1760-1913

I've had a skim of the record. His mother was Elizabeth of 60 Ha??? Street, Bolton. His occupation when he enlisted was a Hawker.

He was kicked out the army in May 1897 for misconduct.

Oh, I see you have another thread:

Best stick to that one to avoid confusion and duplication of our efforts.
