At least 70% of WW1 records were destroyed in WW2 bombing. It may be that his is amongst them.

Could you give a few more details about him please - yob, where born or lived, service number if you have it. Then we can double check for you .

Presumably this one??

Name: Harry Vincent Palmer
[Henry Vincent Palmer]
Birth Date: 22 Jul 1902
Date of Registration: Apr 1988
Age at Death: 85
Registration district: Thanet
Inferred County: Kent
Volume: 16
Page: 1781

Unless he lied about his age, he may have been too young to enlist in WW1. If he was in service after 1920, his records would still be with the MOD.
..........

This gentleman might have been too young to be your grt grandfather.

Birth Date: 7 Apr 1920
Date of Registration: Jul 1990
Age at Death: 70
Registration district: Luton

If he was, his records will deffinately be with the MOD!

This link will tell you how to apply for them at a cost of £30. If his widow is still living, she can apply for them at no charge

Thankyou very much,

Henry Vincent was born abt 1857 in London Bow.

He married. Ellen Evans in Rahan Mallow Ireland abt 1878

They were stationed in Cork, Dover and Canterbury.

When his Army career was over he retired to the Thanet area.

Harry Vincent could easily be his son.

Regards
Marilyn :-D <3 :-D <3 :-D <3

Do you know when he retired? I can't imagine it being after 1920, but you never know!

Have you considered contacting the National Army Museum? They may be able to suggest were the records went.
