I was 42 when I found out I was adopted (1980), applied for a full birth certificate and had to be counselled before they would issue it. The counsellor I saw said she would endeavour to find my mother but of course so could I, but if I did before her, the best way was to let her make the contact. I found when she got married to George Adamson and found her current address and phone number at that time.
Gave the info to the counsellor, she then came back to me to say she had spoken to Margaret by phone and was certain that I had found the right person but Margaret denied it and said that I should forget about it.
I could appreciate what a problem this could be for her and I did not want to cause family problems, so I just stopped.
Two or three years later I was over Epsom way and called into the counsel offices and asked if they could help. The lady came out with a big book and started looking and then said one of the two sisters had worked there, so I have always assumed Kay and Jennifer were females (it was the details on the forms here that caused the confusion).
I never bothered to look again until I started this search. I am 79 now and thought it would be nice to make contact and it shouldn't be too upsetting for those sisters now considering their age.
Thank you all for your help
I'll have to consider about the probates.

AustinQ has mentioned Campbell Adamson.

He is very easy to find, with 2 marriages (showing on Ancestry), and on 192.com with children from (her first marriage?) and second wife. I do not think he is on facebook, but try and search for Sue Adamson from Birkenhead, and then see if you can check out possible relatives with those children's names.

I have now got the probate for George A Adamson and Kay and Jennifer are definitely sisters and are the only two children.
It also gives an address for Jennifer, which I shall write to.
Thank you for telling me about the probate.

Another question. I was born in Jan. 1938 and adopted in Jan. 1939.
Can I find out where I was for that year?

Hi Robert,

A record may still exsist but it may not be where expected to be which would be in the area of your birth, but paperwork may have been passed on over the many intervening years as new departments grew.

From that time details were often scant.

It maybe worth applying to the social services in the area of your adoption to ask.

The court who granted the adoption will have an archived copy of your adoption ,order but they dont have the paprwork,,,,,,plus if an agency was involved they kept their own records.but may have passed on./

Thank you all for giving your help and especially to Kay for telling me about the probate, because the address given on it is where Jennifer still lives and I have been talking to her today and we will be arranging to meet, probably in April
Thank you
Robert
