Dear all of you who have helped us in the search for Nick's family,

We have made contact with one of Nick's cousins and spoken to him. Thanks to your help, we have been able to end a long search and will now begin to answer some of the many questions that adoption throws up. I am especially happy that our children will be able to know more about their family. Nick is now in touch and exchanging information with his relatives who knew nothing about him.

What a start to the year!

Thankyou again, Anna

Have you tried following up some of the siblings to see if you can trace living decendents

It is though a delicate matter as you won't know if her family knew she had a child and then the adoption

I have deleted the list of children that I posted from FreeBMD. I didn't realize that it was wrong to do so since exact birth dates weren't given.

Hi, yes we have the marriage certificates but they don't fit the same Alice. Thank you Margee and Rose for your help. If the children listed by Margee (the same as I have found) are still alive we're aware that this is sensitive but are at a loss about what to do next. If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated. I can't find any other possible Livesey family to fit the information that we have so am conviced they are our Liveseys.

Have you seen there were 2 marriages in 1977 for a Alice Livesey? Might be worth ordering these certificates to see if it was your Alice.

Margee, do we know that all the children you listed are deceased? my mother was born before 1936 and is going strong ...

the rather sensitive nature of the enquiry ... best maybe to send that info by PM or direct the poster to how to find it

it seems Anna has that info anyway and has already identified the family members

(8 children born, one deceased when the info was given at the time of the adoption)

Yes the letter says she was 35 and lists her siblings with specific information relating to them- not names but genders and birth order of brothers and sisters. Also one deceased sibling and when he died. No address though.

Nick is listed on the tree with his birth name - thanks for the tip.

Can you list the facts from the adoption letter? Does it say Alice was 35 and mention her siblings? What addresses does it list?

By the way, you should to add Nick to your tree under his birth name in case relatives come looking for him.

Hi, it's from research based on the information in the adoption letter and the only Alice Livesey who fits the description of siblings and dates in the country. The only family to tally exactly is the Livesey family in Darwen. This is Hector Livesey marrying Alice Cotton in 1924. Definitely not a guess.

You say you "believe the family is from Darwen, Blackburn". Is this from your adoption file or just a guess?

FreeBMD is a good start. Checking Alice's birth you see that mother's maiden name is either Cotton or Rossall:

Births Jun 1932 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Livesey Alice Cotton Blackburn 8e 487
Livesey Alice R Rossall Garstang 8e 843

Check for Hector Livesey marrying Alice and here it is:

Marriages Dec 1924 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

COTTON Alice Livesey Blackburn 8e 773
Livesey Hector Cotton Blackburn 8e 773

I am trying to find my birth family. I was born Nicholas Livesey in 1967 to Alice Livesey and adopted in London. I believe the family is from Darwen, Blackburn and would very much like to trace the family. Alice was born in 1932 and had six siblings. I believe Alice's father was Hector and her mother, Alice also. If you have any information that may help I would really appreciate it.

Nick.
