ah, it all makes sense now, especially about your mum's name, and unfortunate that he was so much older and deceased so there is no trail to follow there

the info does help for knowing what to suggest and what possibilities are ruled out

writing to her brother does seem the best option, hope it works out

Desmond Cecil Ross, sorry. He died in the 70s and was about 20 years older than Maureen.

Sara

Sara Report 1 Dec 2015 08:18

Her father was Cecil Ross. My mother believes that she was the product of an affair, both parents were married.m to other people.

My mother was in a children's home, an not adopted til 13.

JoonieCloonie Report 30 Nov 2015 23:13

Ah, I'm sorry, I had looked for his death and not seen it.

your mother was adopted not as an infant?

not to pry, just to give us an idea of the milestones in Maureen's life.

no wait, he actually died in the quarter after his birth was registered (under the other surname in which his birth was registered) so your mother was adopted as an infant I imagine, and Richard died as an infant ... possibly, since the death was in a different place, before an adoption was completed ...?

do you know the meaning of that other surname, which applies to your mother's twin at birth but not to your mother? I might think it was their father's surname which would mean his info would have to be on the twin's birth certificate if not on your mother's ... have you investigated that possibility, or whether there is parental information on the twin's death certificate?

just wondering whether you are interested in finding your mother's father as well, and whether, if that name is his, finding him might help find Maureen

edit, my mistake, your mum's birth was registered under the other surname, and now I'm confusing myself ... do you have info about her father?

Sara

Sara Report 30 Nov 2015 17:25

Yes, my mother was the twin. Her brother died before age two. My mother was adopted.

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 30 Nov 2015 16:37

Sara I'm finding this a little confusing ...

was Maureen's daughter, your mother, a twin?
if so, do you know anything of the twin?
was your mother adopted? (but kept her given names?)

note re Maureen's siblings - just search at freebmd for births surname Skehan and mother's surname He* and that will find them all with mistranscriptions included

Yes Joonie I was going to remove after acknowledgment, but got waylaid, however I didn't post the reg or quarter for that reason, just posted as an aid to Sara to find them on freebmd given that she might not have noticed them given the mistranscription and location :-)

will edit now >>>>>

That was my concern too Rose as there aresome mistrancriptions here

It could cause some concerns if the wrong family member was contacted and they thought there were family skeletons :-(

Rambling

Rambling Report 27 Nov 2015 21:46

There are several mistranscriptions I think,

Skehan Henon Ashbourne

Skehan Herrob Cheadle

Skehan Herron Cheadle

SKEHAN HERRON Derby

So did the couple move or are there two couples here?

EDITED out first names and dates, now that Sara has seen and suggest checking at freebmd.org.uk for further details ( between 1935 and 1960 say ).

There's a big gap in their birthdays though ,are you sure he is her brother, there is another potential sibling too with the same surname combination but born in 1936 so pre the marriage . Seems there may be another couple with the same surname combination

Sara

Sara Report 27 Nov 2015 17:47

Thanks, Shirley.

Yeah, she was married, but not to my mother's father - the husband died in 1978 and his father was the informant.

I have the death certs for her parents, and she is not the informant.

She has one brother alive who is in Derbyshire, I believe, Noel Patrick Skehan.

Have you looked for her birth and any siblings

Plus have you looked for a marriage for her

Her parents deatn certs to could hold a clue as she could be the informant
