Ivy was born Sandbach Cheshire in 1924 d/o Thomas Barrow and Alice Hancock, lived in Sandbach and Hanley in Stoke on Trent. Joined the ATS and married in Leeds in 1943 to Donald Pearcy, later lived in and around Kidsgrove Staffordshire and remarried in 1960 to Thomas Spencer Blasé. She left in 1973. I think she dies as Heather Blasé in The Royal Marsden Hospital, Chelsea in 1997. Informant Michael Mac McElvaney. She was a retired college catering manageress and lived Chertsey Court, St Peter's rd, Kingston Upon Thames. I think she still had close family members back in Stoke who remained in touch with her. Her family would dearly love to know about her after she left in 1973. Any advice on how to proceed appreciated

Have you looked on members trees to see if she is in anyone's tree

One thing to do first is to get the birth certificate of your Ivy to check that it matches the date of birth on the death certificate

the birthdate on the death record does match the quarter of her birth

Births Dec 1924 (oct-nov-dec 1924)
Barrow Ivy Hancock Congleton 8a 435

Name: Heather Blase
Birth Date: 21 Oct 1924
Date of Registration: Jun 1997
Age at Death: 72
Registration district: Kensington and Chelsea
Inferred County: London
Register Number: C6C
District and Subdistrict: 2391C
Entry Number: 170

do you know whether the informant of death was related or connected to her, or was he someone unrelated e.g. at a hospital?

(to assist others, Ancestry has transcribed the spouse of Ivy H Pearcy on the 1960 marriage as 'Balse')

when you say 'she left in 1973' ... left second husband Thomas Blasé?

can you say, without necessarily being specific, what family would like information?

that is, if it is family of Thomas, for example, we will know that they don't need to be looked for, in order to find info about her

the close family in Stoke would be members of her Barrow family?

she seems to have been the youngest of several (Barrow births in Congleton district after 1911 with mother Hancock)

Doris 1913
Walter 1915
Alice 1917
Maurice 1918

they would all be deceased of course

this would be the parents' marriage

Marriages Sep 1902
Barrow Frank Congleton 8a 599
Hancock Alice Congleton 8a 599

(so likely several other children before 1911)

one member in particular has all those names and others born in Sandbach up to and including Ivy in their tree at this site

'search trees' under Search in the top line on this page to search for surname Barrow born Sandbach

Ivy is the first one in the list and there are pages of Barrows born before 1924, after her

the household in the 1911 census showing Ivy's parents and older siblings is:

Frank Barrow 32
Alice Barrow 29
Francis Barrow 9
Frank Barrow 7
Norah Barrow 5
Nellie Barrow 4
James Henry Barrow 2
Margaret Barrow 1/12

thank you... have birth, first marriage certificate and death certificate, all ties together... she left her husband and children and had no contact at all with them after she left, no explanation as to why she left I am building their tree so no help needed in regards to that. She knew Mr Blasé had passed and that her child was married, someone thought they saw her at the wedding, standing at the back of the church. I believe she must have been in touch with a sibling back in Stoke in order to know these things. No idea what relationship the informant was, carer, friend , had different addresses. Have tried looking for him, will try the trees thank you Nel

How about the route of Thomas S Blase family ,he had 4 siblings.so possibly there are neices &nephews that may have had some contact over the years.?

Helen

Helen Report 1 Nov 2015 23:42

no she had no contact with Thomas the children or their side of the family. They had no idea, I had the distressing job of informing one of them last night that she was deceased, they know nothing at all for 42 years

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 1 Nov 2015 23:43

again just to clarify - when you say 'she left her husband and children', this is Thomas Blasé and her children with him you are referring to?

it's just that I'm not seeing any births for Blase children with mother Barrow ... although hm, they would necessarily have been born before that marriage

fingers crossed that the tree owners have current email addresses in their accounts and are receiving messages

http://www.freeelectoralroll.co.uk/

search for the name of the informant, and you find one whose address is Chertsey Court

unfortunately crosschecking the surname with the post code at http://www.192.com
shows that listing to date from 2002

but that must certainly be the right person, indicating that he was at the very least a neighbour

at 192.com another name is shown living with him but only 2003-2004

that is the other London address shown in the free electoral roll site search results for the informant's name

note that the entries there for Middlesbrough and Whitby are not the same person as the dates shown at 192.com overlap with the London entries

ditto the Manchester entry ... the Aberdeen entry is for quite a young person

I might wonder about this death

Name: Michael McElvaney
Birth Date: 4 Sep 1921
Date of Registration: Jul 2005
Age at Death: 83
Registration district: Chesterfield
Inferred County: Derbyshire
Register Number: C77E
District and Subdistrict: 393/1C
Entry Number: 103

192.com shows an electoral roll entry in Derbyshire for 2003-2005 but for some reason it isn't on free electoral roll

Helen Report 2 Nov 2015 00:00

thanks have tried looking at that but couldn't get on 192.com today??? Chertsey court is correct, thanks will keep trying. Nel

sorry I had missed your reply about the Blasé family before my other post about that question

I've been editing my last post above so thought I'd just make sure you saw the additional info

JoonieCloonie Report 2 Nov 2015 00:16

a possibility for the deceased Mr McElvaney

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F1M5-QZZ

Name Michael Mcelvaney
Event Type Birth
Event Date Oct - Dec 1921
Event Place Monaghan, Ireland
Registration Quarter and Year Oct - Dec 1921
Registration District Monaghan
Volume Number 3
Page Number 157

my idea being that he and Ivy were partners ...

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 2 Nov 2015 00:36

the name is not too terribly common ... he may have travelled to New York in 1953 as ship's crew showing 4 years' service

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QVMF-K9MZ

and in 1955 showing 8 years' service

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2HZ3-P8X

unfortunately, 1905-1935 there were a lot of McElvaney births registered in Monaghan, and no mother's surname is shown in the index there until the later years, when it appears that there were several McElvaney families having children there ... so identifying his family would be pretty difficult

there was a marriage in 1953 in Monaghan

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FTY3-3YC

Ancestry's version of the entry is a little messed up, but there were 5 possible brides

one of their surnames does match births in Monaghan after the marriage date

If the informant wasnt an official and just a friend.neighbour then their address should be on the death certificate.

Have you checked to see if there is an unclaimed estate.sometimes they can shed light or other routes.

The list is endless and goes back years and some of the years are mixed with more recent ones so spare time is needed they are not named indexed.

www.bonavacantialist.co.uk/?

or there are people such a Heir Hunters and others who can make it easier but make a charge.

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 2 Nov 2015 13:44

yes Helen you are being a little cryptic! :-)

you said 'Chertsey court is correct'

I'm not sure whether you meant that 'Chertsey Court' was the informant's address on the death certificate

and I'm not sure whether you understood that the informant was listed on the 2002 electoral roll at that address

Helen Report 2 Nov 2015 20:22

sorry researching on behalf of a friend so trying to be discreet. Ok the older child was taken on by Ivy and her first husband Don Pearcy, allegedly the son of her sister. So presumably christened Barrow but I am at a dead end with that too. Informant Michael Mc Elvaney 85 Chertsey Court Lower Richmond road Mortlake. I have no idea re relationship but was present at the death of Ivy. If the above chap is correct then with his age may have been her companion, but if he has passed away not able to enquire. Ivy lived 8 Madingley, St Peters Rd Kingston upon Thames. She was christened Ivy Barrow but adopted Heather between birth and her first wedding, her death certificate shows heather Blasé date of birth correct but she claims to have been born in Liverpool so I discounted it. However on talking Sat evening her career stuck out and there are no other alternatives, cross referenced marriages deaths etc. This is the most likely, need to find a relative of her siblings I am convinced she was in touch with someone back home who kept her up to date with what was happening to her husband Tom and her daughter. I have sorted her daughters birth 2 entries Pearcy and Blasé they married 2 years after her birth. Sorry it's very complicated but many thanks for all your comments.

The informant would have given the place of birth on her death certificate. That might explain the error.

I see the birth now under the maiden name Burrows.

ah ,the propery is on the Cambridge Estate built in the 1960s the block is called.Madingly so are authority owned.
There was a dreaful fire sometime back at the flats.

He could have been a hospital worker who takes care of these things when lone people die.

.
There may be people still living at the flats who may have known her./
