Trying to contact father/his family

given the birthdates of the children in that family I would expect most if not all of them to be still living

and there are so many of them, most with relatively uncommon names (not all John and Mary, and they have middle initials!), that it should be possible to trace somebody!

knowing the places to look is the first thing, and that's what we're good at here :-)

that family certainly does seem very likely but so far I hadn't had any luck finding any of them in the present day

I didn't find the parents' marriage (O'Hanlon + Jordan) to see what their names were and look for deaths in England

there is the oddment that the child EA seems to have been registered as Hanlon rather than O'Hanlon, and there is a possible marriage for that name as Hanlon in 1968 in Paddington (when the child EA would have been 21)

that couple is on the electoral roll until 2013 but no electoral or telephone listing after that

I will send you that info

Joonieclooney i am amazed you may have found them so quickly! I just want to thank everyone whos reseatching this for me , something ive wanted to do but never knew how to start. My previous efforts have always come to nothing. His sister could be eleanor too, that sounds familiar but for a lot of their information i am depending on my memory of overheard conversations of my childhood.....
Thanks again and allologies if ive made any errors with the trees!

that family looks like a good fit ... sister with initials CCP (see the list of births at the link above) married in Southend on Sea in 1978, but I don't see her on a recent electoral roll

Brother with initials PV married in Lewisham
there is a listing for him at http://www.freeelectoralroll.co.uk
but crosschecking it (surname + postal code) at http://www.192.com
shows it to have been 2002 with no current entry

William's own name if that is him born in Galway, initial J, is a little too common to hazard a guess, and no marriage in the London area

JoonieCloonie Report 1 Nov 2015 00:33

a William was born in Galway in 1940 in the April-June quarter of the year ... which would certainly fit everything you know about him

the parents had a large family but no Eileen ... an Eleanor? do you know whether his sister was older or younger?

You can see the list of those births here, between 1939 and 1955

on the 1964 electoral roll

a single William O'Hanlon was living at 2 Durnford St, Tottenham

a single Eileen O'Hanlon was at the Aban Court Hotel, Harrington Gardens, Kensington South

(at least neither is with a spouse or family member)

it's a bit hard to find info about the Aban Court Hotel since an infamous murder was committed there in 1954 and that is what searching mainly finds, but it seems to have been a residential hotel

those are the latest listings available on line ... neither fits very well I guess

Do you mean Elgin Avenue? Have you tried looking at old electoral rolls?

Hi all thanks so much, i really am clueless at this but am overwhelmed with what ye have found already.
In respect to his age i think he was early 30's in 1972, birth date might be 26th april but not sure if this is definate. The family is originally from galway, ireland but dont know where he was born. As i said i have very little to go on and no way to get more info it really is a needle in a haystack. Think they live on elfin road queens park london at the time and that he was unmarried at that time. He had other brothers and sister but dont have their names

1947 Greenwich marriage strikes me as not the most likely given the dates Essene mentions (actually early 1970s I believe)

Essene should understand that these are complete guesses, and no marriage, for example, is any more likely than any other

good chance they were not born in England maybe, as I don't see a William born 1925-1955 with a sister Eileen (i.e. with same mother's surname)

not knowing what Ann sent ...

an Eileen O'Hanlon married in Camberwell district in 1967

do you think this might be a possibility?

William was unmarried at the time? any idea of his age then?
