Find Living Relatives

When I'm trying to trace someone.,, I google the name and type 192. This will give names of people living with the person and the area they live in. I then check Bt the phone book to see if they are on there.

If I have credits then I would check Genes Reunited Electoral Rolls or if I have a subscription with Find My past check their Electoral Rolls. If nothing pops up check Ancestry's British Phone Books, 1880-1984.

The chances are they might not be in the electoral registers. Many people have decided to remove their information from the electoral registers to stop cold callers and junk mail. The down side to this is poor credit rating when applying for a credit card.

there are tricks you can use

use google to search for

"Jane Smith" 192.com

instead of doing the search at 192.com, and you will get more detailed results than you can get by searching at 192.com directly - you will get individual records showing city and partial post code, and others at the address and sometimes age, and the dates of the listing, and you can click on the other household members to get the same info

this only works if you aren't really searching for Jane Smith of course :-) although with a relatively common name you can throw in a city name in the search terms, if you know it, or another household member's name, and try that

you can also try BT on line for an address and telephone listing, if you know at least the county where they live

if you find a listing there that shows only an initial that is a possibility for your person, go back to 192.com and search for the surname and complete post code, as Jan suggested for taking info from freeelectoral roll and doing the same, and you will get the full name

also at freeelectoralroll you can search for someone together with another name in the household to try to filter the results, if you have another name you are sure of

It might pay to do some double-checking using the name/area using 192.com, as the free site does not specify when the person was at the address.
