Finding My Father!

Hi Guys, wandered if anyone could help..... I am looking to trace down my biological father. My mum has told me a few details but isnt overly forthcoming with information.

His Name is Tim Bird and he was born a couple of years either side of 1963. I am 28 now so he would have been 24 when my mum fell pregnant. They lived in the Reading area and I believe that's where he was from He went to work abroad I believe as a chef on cruise ships. That unfortunately is all I know.

I am looking to start a family of my own now and would love to complete my own family history first.

Could anybody recommend where I could start? What other information would be good to know as I could probably try and get that from my mum, however if I could do this without distressing her that would be good.

Thanks in advance!

There are quite a few Timothy Birds born around 1963 - look on freebmd.org.uk.

If you knew his mother's surname, you'd be able to pinpoint which birth is his, but I don't suppose you do.

There's only one born in Berkshire, but not Reading.

Have a look on searchelectoralroll.co.uk (free to search), and you'll see one person of that name at an address in Reading - though whether he's the right person or not, I couldn't say.

The info and picture here seem to be about the Tim now in Reading. The pic is small and not too helpful, but you can blow it up using alt+ on your keyboard, and maybe your mum could rule that person in or out?

As for other info to ask her, whether she knew any brothers' or sisters' names could help. Then you can search at freebmd for children with the same two parents' surnames to match any of the Tim Bird births, and possibly identify which one is the right TB if there are sibling names to match. Of course his parents' own names would be the biggest help, to find the birth that matched those names. Knowing which birth is his can help find more info, e.g. if he has a middle initial.

FreeBMD has poor coverage around 1963 and 1964 so you will need to use another site:
