Harry Walker and Susan Griffiths Married 1926

JoonieCloonie Report 13 Oct 2015 17:56

Susan's dob on her death record was Jan 1906

so yes the options are

Births Mar 1906
Griffiths Susan Sunderland 10a 820
Griffiths Susan Barnsley 9c 217
Griffiths Susannah Evans Dolgelly 11b 353

there is no Susan Griffiths marriage in Sunderland

keep in mind though that a father's name on a marriage certificate is not proof positive of the father's name :-)

the only thing is that Susan's place of birth in 1911 is shown as Bowburn which is where the family is living and is in Durham reg dist ... that could have been an error since the younger 3 children were born there

just to note that for the 1911 census for Susan with father Robert at Ancestry, the father's surname is clearly written as GriffithS but the mother's is missing the S, and Ancestry has transcribed the whole household as Griffith ... and all the children as Junior

the parents had been married 8 years and the mother had had 11 children, 10 living

since she was 31 at the time and some of the children in the household are 16 and older, I don't think that figure is accurate for her, I think it was meant for her husband (the info had initially been entered by him against his name and was stricken out and entered against her name probably by a census worker)

I know nothing about the geography of the area and I'm completely unable to match the birthplaces of the children in the 1911 census to birth records / registration districts :-)

was just wondering whether finding marriages for others of the younger children might help to establish that Susan who married in Bradford was that Susan ... and it just doesn't help when people call their children things like Florrie, Willie Junior and JH in the census!!

that last for sure anyway

Births Jun 1909
GRIFFITHS James Henry Durham 10a 501

Deaths Dec 1926
Griffiths James H 17 Durham 10a 410

... so the family itself had not left Durham it would seem ... the parents likely died there in 1921 and 1922 ... perhaps Susan left the area on her own

assuming that Susan remarried because Harry died, do you know when he died?

that would determine when to be looking for births :-)

if you don't know when he died, what was his age on the marriage certificate (to search for his death)?

for Harry Walker in Bradford with dates of birth 1902 to 1906, there are 4 deaths all after 1952

you would know whether he was deceased in 1952 from Susan's marital status on that marriage certificate

Looking at freebmd.org.uk there are three Walker/Griffiths births between 1926 and 1940 which seem possible.

Can anyone help me find out if Harry Walker and Susan Griffiths (Born 1906, though not sure where, I know her fathers name was Robert and the only Susan I can find with a father of that name is in Durham though there is a Susan Griffiths 1906 from Barnsley the fathers name is Arthur) had any children. They married in 1926 in Bradford. Susan went on to marry my Grandad Harold Blakeley in 1952, he was living at 5 Northall Avenue, Thackley and Susan was at 69 Bradford Road, Idle, Bradford. I have nothing on Harry Walker. Any help, links etc would be greatly appreciated. Sharry xxxxxx
