this is the direct link for the free weekend special

(I have registered free accounts all over for various free offers, so now I get them sent to me directly :-) )

http://www.ancestry.ca/cs/labourday2015

it is good until midnight on Monday eastern time which should be 5 AM Tuesday I believe.

in this case you don't need to do the complete registration with credit card:

'Access to the records in the featured collections will be free until September 7, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. ET. To view these records you will need to register for free with Ancestry.ca with your name and email address. We will then send you a username and password to access the records. After the free access period ends, you will only be able to view the records in the featured collections using an Ancestry.ca paid membership. To see a full list of the records in the featured collections please click here.'

do try the voters lists ... some of the transcriptions are quite bad so try with wild cards if you need to e.g. Marianne Faithfull becomes mar* fai* or ma*ne fa*ll

and as Detective said the phone book

and don't forget just good old google ... try various forms of the name
John Robert Smith, John R Smith, Smith John Robert ...

you never know, the person might have a LinkedIn account or be shown on a webpage at their place of employment, for example.

The Canadian phone book if he had an idea where they lived
http://www.canada411.ca/

Ancestry has a free weekend for Canadian records - they may be included on the ER
Canada, Voters Lists, 1935-1980

If you wanted access, register with http://www.ancestry.ca
It will probably/possibly ask for a credit card number. If it does, then you've 2 weeks to phone to cancel.

Access to Canadian BMD are far more restrictive than the ones in England/Wales/Scotland and have a longer closure period. You could do an internet search for the person's name which might throw up an obituary.

Hi

Can anyone help, I am looking to trace someone in Canada (assuming they still live there). They are a 2nd cousin of my father. He has many memories of them but for reasons unknown lost contact with them in his childhood.

Any tips on how I can find someone would be much appreciated,

Many thanks
