We've asked GR to remove the option, or at least make it reversible. Unfortunately, nothing hasn't happened! Like many things in life, it seemed a good idea at the time. ;-)

It would be worth David requesting the Ask the Librarian service to give the details from the Notices.

There may be further leads such as the cemetery/funeral directors or the names of relatives. He might then be able to find out the age of the deceased Thomas William Hughes to see if he is a likely candidate

That function is supposed to be used only to 'close' a thread, not indicate an answer to a post in the thread ... but not one human being in the history of the world has ever understood that, and the site management knows there is a problem but flatly refuses to lift the baby finger that would be needed to fix it ...

So either Thomas William was born the same year as the wedding, or he was adopted/took the Hughes surname

in 1924 Thomas George and Annie Mary are at 127 Emmeline, Northcote, and he is a cleaner

the information is the same in 1942

Thomas William, boilermaker, is also in the 1942 household

if voting age was 21, that would suggest he was born by 1921

... it seems that 21 was the age at the time

How about using the Victorian 'Ask a Librarian' service?

They can check the ER for the missing years, and bring them forward past 1980. There could be another Hughes living at the various addresses who obtained the age of majority and then moved out.

Although Hughes is a relatively common name, combining it with a place might throw up something relevant. Because of privacy laws, editions post 1949 may not be available

on the 1980 electoral roll at Ancestry his address is shown as 'Whitsea' with occupation Prim Prod

the only other Hughes there whose address is not more detailed is Jacqueline, Shop Asst

possibly a daughter ... in 1964 the other household member is Annie Mary, home duties

yes, in 1973 he and Annie are at Whitsea 3757, and in 1977 it is him and Jacqueline at that location

that is the only other Hughes that can be connected with him 'prima facie' but it does suggest that he had at least a daughter ... who will unfortunately likely have another surname now :-)

... although that would make for a marriage rather late in life as she first appears in 1977 ...

I am looking for any information regarding any decendants of my 1st cousin once removed, Thomas William Hughes. I only have an approximate birth date of 1925 for Thomas William as most of the Australian birth records I have access to stop at 1922. He appears as the informant on the death certificates for both of his parents

His father was Thomas George Hughes who was born on 5 Apr 1896 at Dover, Kent, England. He comes to Melbourne in 1914 as a farm student and marries a Tasmanian girl, Anna Mary Freeman, in 1921 at St. Phillips, Collingwood, Victoria and dies at Alfred Hospital, Mebourne on 18 May 1961.

Thomas George appears in the Melbourne business directories from 1949 to 1954 and is described as a Primary Producer but of what I have yet to find out. Thomas William is in the same business from 1949 to 1980. From 1949-1954 they are in Diamond Creek, Deakin, Victoria but, after TG dies, from 1961-1980 TW is in Whittlesea.

I am interested to know what they were producing and also if Thomas William Hughes married and, if so, whether there are any children still living. Thomas George Hughes was brother to my grandfather, Sydney Valentine Hughes, and I would dearly love to be able to tell my mother that she still has Hughes cousins still living.

One interesting fact that I have uncovered is that Thomas George Hughes was an Anzac in WW1 with service number 18447 but his service record only lists his fathers name, also Thomas George Hughes.

I hope someone can help.
