My unknown half-brother Alan Wieliczker

Hello,

Recently, I found out that I have a brother - the first child of my father. He was born in Bologna, Italy in 1946. His name is Alan Wieliczker. I know the name of his mother - Jole Della (or Delle) Donne. The name of our common father is Alexander Wieliczker. I also managed to find out that in 1963 he immigrated supposedly to Britain. However, I could not find traces of him there. It is possible that he changed the spelling of his last name, for example to Velichker. However, after trying various possible options I could not find him. I looked in the freebmd.org.uk. I was wondering, where else can I turn to? I need help.

FreeBMD is still work in progress so it's unlikely you will find info on him on there if he married after he came to to the UK c 1965

There don't seem to be any UK records in that surname. No marriages, no deaths or Electoral roll entries.

As you share a parent, he is your half-brother. Were his parents married? May be he used his mother's surname

I think Alla you do mean half-brother --
(oops, an earlier query about this has been edited now)

'The name of our common father is Alexander Wieliczker.'

however it could be that his birth was registered in his mother's surname?

do you know whether your father was married to Alan's mother?

we're mostly not familiar with registration practices in Italy, here :-)

although freebmd is not up to date, indexes at Ancestry up to 2007 also do not show a marriage or death for his name

also, would you edit your message to remove the full date of birth? the year of birth is sufficient without disclosing such personal information

and maybe amend to 'half-brother' at the same time :-)

Thank you to everybody for your assistance. I corrected my message as JoonieCloonie advised.

We do get a birth certificate for Alan and his last name there was Wieliczker. He emigrated from Italy under that name. As far as I know my dad wasn't married to Alan's mother.

Thank you again

the name is Polish it seems, and there are numerous references on line to the name in connection with Poland and WWI (in fact an Edward Wieliczker a Polish airman died in England in 1945)

one person referred to on line apparently changed his name to Wells

most of the sites in Polish and German would not be relevant to your search for your brother, unfortunately, since he did not likely settle in Poland I would imagine

Yes, you are right, Wieliczker is Jewish name from Poland.

Edward Wieliczker is my grandfather who was a Polish officer died in England hospital.
