The only other info I have is the name of a family he was friends with but I don't want to post that in here really.

Hi all I have is that he was called Bob. It's frustrating not knowing if it's even his name!

My dad was a Reynolds and in the navy. He went by his middle name not hjis proper name.

It's going to be tough I know. Also there's a chance he may have passed away so I will just have to see what happens. Thanks for taking the time to try and help though.

Even buying a birth certificate wouldn't get you far as there are 137 births for a Robert Reynolds born 1937 +/- 2 years. Without more information you would never be able to find the correct one.

The other info that I have is that he would have had links to Northolt and surrounding areas. Described as short and stocky with fair hair. That's the sum total of info I have. I have potentially found his birth entry but it's not enough to confirm whether it's him.

Yes he is related to me. I'm hoping a relative sees this and contacts me. Thanks.

We could tell that your info was vague..............was he supposed to have been related to you?

To be honest the info I have is vague and there is no one I can ask. I'm not sure if he was in the navy or a fisherman or any other type of sailor. I'm just hoping someone will see this and recognise him from the scrap of info I have!

My uncle was in the navy and he told us that most sailors at that time (1940's and 1950's) never used their proper name when in port. My uncle's name was Alfred, but quite a lot of his friends called him Arthur because that was the name he used when he was on leave in a foreign port - a bit naughty but that's how it was. Even his wife thought his name was Arthur when she first met him.

You might have a difficult time trying to track him down.

Unlikely to have been registered as 'Bob', which may not even be a diminutive. It could be a nickname

Have you tried looking for info yourself?

freebmd is a good start, although, as your info is so vague, I doubt you'd find the man's birth

I'm assuming you've been told he is related to you..................

Where someone was living at a given time is no indicator of his or her birthplace

Hi wondering if anyone has any info on a sailor/seaman called Bob Reynolds born at some time around 1937. I'm assuming West London but that is a guess.
Thanks
