I am still looking for relatives of my uncle Derek DOB 11/01/1933 born in Willenhall, Wolverhampton. We think he died in Kensington in 1966. Fathers name Ernest Williams. Mother Nellie ( nee Gallier ) If you think you can help I would be very greatful, Christine.

There is an ER entry for a Derek Williams in 1965 living at 128 Lexham Gardens W8. It seems to be a house of multiple occupancy as there are a number of other surnames, with only 2 couples with the same as each other.

A copy of the DC, as suggested by Shirley, is your best bet. Even if the informant wasn’t a relative, the normal address could be looked up on ER. He may have died in a hospital in the Kensington reg area rather than lived there.

You can order a copy at a cost of £9.25 from here.

You can't assume he had any legitimate descendants, unless you know that he married.

he was married, but don't know how many children he had.

Well after what seems like a life time we have finally found out when and where Derek died. It was the 25th December 1965 of morphine poisoning. He was living at 92 Golborne road Kensington. one mystery solved, but another pops up. His death informant was the coroner for west London after his inquest. Does anyone know what i can do now?

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 26 Jun 2015 13:20

You could look at the Electoral Roll for the address for the years leading up to his death.

You should be able to access it in the main public library for the area.

You state that he 'was married'...................have you found any proof of this?

christine

christine Report 26 Jun 2015 15:39

No proof of marriage only what his mom told us that he was and had two girls.

do you know for sure that the derek that died in Kensington is the one you are looking for as someone on ancestry has both Ernest and Derek in there tree, with the right parents. but they have him married in 1954 and his death as 1980

christine

christine Report 29 Jun 2015 13:56

Yes this is the right one, i think the other tree is my husbands as he has put my tree and his together.
how do i go about finding how to search the electoral register for 1965/6 for Kensington?

Elizabeth

Elizabeth Report 29 Jun 2015 22:49

you can search on ancestry , don't know if there is any other site, perhaps someone else on here knows. Have looked at the records available , there are 5 entries for derek Williams between 1953 --65 no sign of a wife

christine Report 30 Jun 2015 08:51

It all seems so elusive, so think i am going to give up on trying to find any of his children, even the police in Kensington who informed his parents say they cannot give out info because of data protection. End of the road. thank you all for trying to help me.

there is a Derek Williams + Clarke marriage in Wolverhampton in 1954, which would fit in time and place ... is the 1954 marriage in your husband's tree a guess, or does it refer to that marriage?

in 1957 there are the births of twin Williams girls with mother Clarke in Paddington with no obvious marriage to match
(there is also a male Williams with mother Clarke birth there a year later)

although one of the girls has a very distinctive name, I see no further record of her (marriage, death, electoral roll)

there is a likely marriage for the boy (who also had a distinctive name) in 1983 and he appears to be in Cornwall on a recent electoral roll

have you considered those possibilities?

christine

christine Report 2 Jul 2015 08:40

I have checked the marriage for Derek/Clarke, sent for the marriage cert. But the fathers name for Derek was wrong. Says James Williams not Ernest. Although everything else seems to fit, even the fact he was in the army. And it gives his army number 23037683 R.A.O.C

Gritty Report 2 Jul 2015 09:54

Just to add to the mystery- in 1963 a Colin Calder is listed on the Electoral register at 92 Goldborne Road, however on the electoral registers for 1964 & 1965 the numbers for Goldborne Road jump from 90 to 94- there appears to be no 92 listed.

Ancestry electoral registers only go up to 1965 so I'm unable to check in 1966.

Perhaps you could phone North Kensington Library to see if they hold the electoral registers for 1966, or to see if they have newspapers from that time as these may hold details of the inquest, or reports on the incident?
