Are you on the national adoption contact register?

Have you looked in search trees?

OK

Look at top right........see 'search' button

Click on it.......from the dropdown select 'search all member trees'.

Enter the man's details, and cross your fingers that someone else has them in a tree.

If they do, try to get in touch by clicking on 'find out more'

Send a carefully-worded message and hope for a positive outcome.

Good luck

The above links to the adoption contact register as suggested by Jacqueline.

Apart from registering and adding his birth name to your tree, there isn't a great deal you can do.

If you can find his birth reg on http://www.freebmd.org.uk/search you could add a Post'em with your contact details. Use a dedicated email address such as @gmail etc to avoid spam.

Occasionally adoptees looking for birth family will create a social media (Facebook) account in their birth name. It's worth a search.

As he was born in 1956, he might have been included in the child migrant programme to Canada or Australia. There are various websites which give more information on those.
