Did you see the point Jan made about contacting the library closest to the cottage to get the names of the people who lived there from the electoral roll?

Do you live locally? It might be worth checking out the electoral register to see who was living there. The idea being you might be able to identify her parents & maybe siblings, and from there pin down her birth. Or even track down other relatives.
There were no electoral registers kept during WW2, but hopefully the family was there in the years before or after.

Hi Sheena.
Can I just ask where this cottage fits in? Do you mean it's where Elsie lived with her family?

No it cannot be reversed! How annoying

I know nothing else about Elsie except she was around 19 years old when she had the baby. I think John was born 1940/1942 personally as I have a letter from a friend of my father-in-law to F-I-L when both serving in armed forces asking if he was marrying Holland girl and this was dated 1941. So John could have been born or she was pregnant. The family who live in the cottage now know nothing about the Holland's and the family connected through friendship know nothing as it was over 60 years ago. Thanks agin

Sheena, you have marked my reply as 'answered' - this will indicate that your query is dealt with, which of course it isn't (it's an annoying Genes feature, not being made clear what it means!).

Have a look and see if this can be reversed.

Just to check - do you know anything else about Elsie? Birth year, place maybe?

Hi Brummiejan and Gritty

Thanks for the assistance. The cousin tracked him via a friend supposedly and I have followed the other two to no avail Gritty. Strange how people can just vanish...
:-D

If Holland was Elsie May's maiden name there are only a couple of options for John's birth within Cheshire- a John W born 1941 Wirral, and a John A born 1943 Hyde (Hyde included Stalybridge until 1974).

Hi Sheena.
I suppose the first question is how the cousin tracked John down, and where he was living at the time.
There are several possible births which might match, check on Freebmd - just google. You can also look for possible marriages for Elsie. Pinning down his birth would help in case there is s middle initial.
Do you know when Elsie was born? I don't suppose you know her birthday! If you did, this could be used to look for possible deaths 1970-2007.

I am looking for a John Holland born possibly in Cheshire to an Elsie May Holland who lived in Gorstage near to Weaverham at the time. We believe he was born between 1938 and 1941. John left the area aged @ 10 years old with his mother who we are told married a man with a foreign name? John was the son of my father-in-law John "Jack" Beech of Weaverham Cheshire. John paid maintenence until John was of age but had no contact that we know of. Stalybridge could be connected. A cousin recently said he had contacted John and that he did not want to know the family but his half sister Christine is very keen to meet and know him as the children did not know about his existence until very recently. We believe the cousin who acted without the familys knowledge may not have approached the situation well. Thank you
