Welcome to the boards, Alexandra.

I think you are going to have to try and find out some more definite information about him, as there are going to be many men called Thomas Parker born between 1936 and 1949, and living anywhere in the UK.

When did he marry Jean, (have you got the certificate?) so could you find out his father's name to identify the family?

Do you know of any other family members?

When was he in Swindon?

Thank-you

There appear to be 2 men born in Paisley between those dates, one in 1938 and one in 1944.
You would need scotlandspeople for more information, and to buy credits.

His marriage 1963 in Pontypridd (?) - so GRO for that certificate: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp

Alexandra - you have probably just found something like this (see below), which is not an actual marriage certificate. It is a transcription made up from all the marriages that happened in a certain Registration district within a particular quarter of the year as recorded at the General Register Office..

Here it tells you that Thomas and Jean married in the 4th quarter of 1963 - i.e. in either October, November or December of that year. They married in the Pontypridd Registration district (the country is divided into various different ones) which covers various villages, towns etc - including Aberdare in this instance.

The Volume 8B and Page 1209, give you a reference for the record which is held centrally at the General Register Office.

You need to actually purchase the certificate itself, which should then tell you the ages at the time of the marriage of both bride and groom, their occupations, addresses and also the name and occupation of their Fathers and whether they are deceased. This will hopefully help to identify your Thomas.

Order from www.gro.gov.uk at £9.25 (anywhere else will be more expensive) using their online order service. You will need to quote the Volume and page numbers shown.

Alexandra, you will understand that we reading here only know what you tell us, and can't read between the lines :-)

things like when Thomas was last known to be in Swindon (as mentioned), whether he and Jean are divorced, are you in touch with Jean ...

just for ruling out, for others looking ... a Jean Parker remarried in Swindon in 1984 and is living there with her husband and daughter whose name is the same as Alexandra's ! but they are different people, I checked out the chains of births/marriages
