Trying to find Margaret Connor

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

Roger Report 30 Dec 2014 02:57

The Connor family without Margaret came out to NZ about 1860 in the ship Crusader which landed them at Lytleton the Christchurch Port.
It was my mother in law who used to talk about Margaret. The former was a daughter of Catherine Margaret's sister.
I gather the aunts wanted to have Catherine to be left behind with them but the Mother decide it would be Margaret as Catherine being the eldest daughter would be more help to her.

Unfortunately there is no one living who can help .My wife and her sister are the nieces of Margaret and they are in full time care with reduced memories

Regards
Roger.

Thank you AnnCardiff
Your reply has been most helpful
It has confirmed what I had found out .
What has been more helpful is the information re the birth place of Elisa Jane. There had been a gap there in her records.
She was a most formidable figure always dressed in black. A woman of few words which as a young person I would jump to it. She never spoke to us about her past
neither did her sisters except my wife's grandmother would mention a few experiences she had had but very little about the family history.
You have helped me before.
Best wishes for 2015
Kind regards
Roger.

One sure thing............she won't be living....LOL!!

Who were the aunts?

Where did they live?

When did the mother emigrate?

Have you looked at the (FREE) Irish censuses for 1901 and 1911?

have you looked for bmd info at familysearch?

Have you looked to see if she is in anyone's tree on here, and then tried to contact them? (Quite a few with no place of birth specified, but might as well try).

Margaret was born April 6 1862. Her parents were Samuel and Sarah Connor of
Straid Derry. When her father died her Mother emigrated to New Zealand with five of her siblings leaving Margaret behind in care of aunts .I have been unable to find out what happened to her. Any help would be most appreciated.
