Hello all!

I am looking for my Uncle, Michael Frederick Thompson, born in 1943 in Ashton-Under-Lyne, England. Son to Evelyn May Thompson.

Michael grew up in London, but in later life moved to Glasgow, Scotland and lived on Hope Street for many years. I traveled to Glasgow about six years ago, in the hopes of finding him, but the electoral rolls said he was at the last known address back in 1998. I went as far as knocking on doors with people who matched his name in the general area, but with a name like Michael and Thompson, you can imagine how difficult that was on a limited time scale.

I do realized that he could have moved back to England or any other country for that matter, or even be dead. But again, his name is quite common and it makes things difficult to pin point a death, if that were the case. It is my hope that perhaps someone sees this and knew him for a time or knows him or by some miracle he reads this himself.

If any further suggestions can be offered, it would be much appreciated.

No deaths for that name and birth date showing on Ancestry in England and Wales to 2007.

Hi Rachel, best edit the date of birth to just year before the phantom reporter strikes, in which case no-one will be able to read your post.

Rachel, when you visited the street he had lived in, did you try asking the neighbours if they knew anything about him, such as where he worked, names of friends, where he went?
Might also be an idea to check the electoral register to see if anyone else was living there at the time.
You might also try seeing if anyone is registered for the street on Friends Reunited.

Island, phantom reporters? I'll change it to just the year then.

Brummiejan, where he lived was kind of above businesses. It was a strange location. We did buzz on the buzzer, the woman didn't seem to want to know and no one would let us into the building. We asked across the street, at the pub, they had no information.

On the records, no one lived with him.

Friends Reunited has that kind of detail? I never really checked. I'll have a look.
