I have PM Gary with research information on Donald . his mothers second
marriage, the surname he now has, and the area he now lives with his wife
and children, all the names found are in the same GR Tree.

I think the ' rule ' of not adding living relatives to trees without permission is aimed at the people adding willy nilly.....not for people that are actually trying to make contact.

So if you want to put them back Gary, you do that it's not a crime

Ricochet

I read only a short while ago where you took Patchem to task .. you words were

and I quote... are you an official board police person?

you seem to jump in and castigate people at the drop of a hat'

Do you not think you should practice what you preach?

Gary you carry on.. we will be fine.. P

Gary,

Please stay.

We are trying to help you.

The first thing you need to do is to apply for and get those 2 birth certificates for Donald and David, to make sure they are who you believe them to be.

Once that is confirmed then we can work with confidence in trying to find them.

(e.g. If the mother remarried very soon after the births then they may have used the new husband's surname.)

We on here cannot recheck all the facts, it is the certificates that will give you the information.

Good Luck, and return to this thread once you have the certificates so that we can work on from there.

Gary, it is of course your choice, whether to remain on the site ( I hope you will decide to stay ) I think perhaps some posts may be construed as a little abrupt (though I am sure they are meant to inform rather than offend ) but if you decide you do wish to leave please remember to keep Genes informed if you change your email at any time, that way if anyone does contact you through this site Genes will have an up to date email on which to inform you.

Also just in case you are not aware, if you have contacted Rossie Rossie, you can check if they have opened the message by looking to see if the 'envelope' icon is still by your sent message , it disappears when the message has been read .

Thank you Ricochet.... I have stated my intent is to find lost relatives and not to become a genealogy researcher. If this is not the correct site for that intent, you have my sincere apologies.
You are quite astute when you suggest that I really do need to carefully check the info I have, that is what I've been attempting to do. As an absolute beginner, I have made mistakes for which I hope I will be forgiven. The only person I know of, who could shed any light on the accuracy of the info I have, died in 1985. My uncles have all passed away (if they ever knew anything) so cannot help me.
It may be better for all concerned for me to terminate my involvement on this site, thus reducing the risk of making further mistakes or causing offense.
Thank you to all responders. I have heeded your advice and will try to act upon it all as best I can.

As we cannot see any further information for any Donald V P Mitchell, it would be very useful to know what those middle names were, and also to confirm he is actually related.

I think you'll find that you need to seriously re-think

and please do some research on freebmd

Gary Report 2 Aug 2014 08:24

Ricochet- I have amended my tree accordingly. Sorry.
I have requested corroboration from Rosie Rosie.... But nothing yet.
I registered the death of Joseph Moyne Mitchell.... Only just discovered the misspelling.
I've done no research myself.... Just started here on this site.

gary

I see that you have included Donald in your tree on this site.

Site rules say that you must not include living people in your tree unless you have their permission.

If your have included david also, the same applies

Someone else has Donald in a tree, hopefully with the required permission, so that member may be able to help you. You could get in touch and make tactful enquiries, however, take note that............

That member does NOT include the david you mention in the tree. That tree includes the other Mitchell birth registered in Portsmouth with MMN Hardy

You really do need to check very carefully the info you have been given, which does seem to be short on accuracy, or you could cause distress if you get in touch

Ricochet Report 2 Aug 2014 08:08

Who registered the 1985 death?

have you done any research yourself?

use freebmd, it's very easy

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/search

Get some certs, so that you have facts, not hearsay

patchem

patchem Report 2 Aug 2014 07:26

You could apply for the birth and death certificates, just to confirm information:

Gary Report 2 Aug 2014 07:07

To all responders: Thank you
Joseph Moyne Mitchell died in 1985 under a different name that was recorded with a misspelling (only just found that out)
I was informed of Donald's and David's existence at around that time. I was told they are brothers. Their mother was Pauline Hardy. I have no birth certificates, or any accurate or verifiable information other than that of Joseph Moyne Mitchell. The Hardy/Mitchell marriage 1952 would seem to fit.
I'm not a genealogist or motivated to complete a full family tree... But the recent TV program where people are helped to find their long lost family, has struck a chord.... I would like to at least inform these men they have a relation they have never met, and take it from there. If they are not interested, so be it.
I am very grateful for all your investigations on my behalf.

No sign of a marriage for Donald V P

What makes you think that the men you name are related to each other?

Do you have their birth certs?

Joseph M married Hardy in York in 1952

there are numerous Mitchell births with MMN Hardy after 1952, but they can't all be related to one another

Are you sure the Rotherham and Portsmouth births are from the same couple?

There are several Mitchell/Hardy marriages and if you look at 1958 there is a birth in Rotherham in the first quarter followed by a Portsmouth birth the next quarter.

Obviously we have 2 different mothers in 1958.

Thank-you

There are other Mitchell/Hardy births in Rotherham, and one other in Portsmouth later, these can be seen on Freebmd.org.uk if you think they may be connected?
