That's a very good point - from what I remember, the other member didn't have as much detail, so def. worth a try.

I am trying to trace relatives as well and have managed to get birth certificates from within the last 50 years. I found the index numbers and then telephoned to GRO. They just ask for something to identify/match the record. I have given the mothers full name and have got the certificates without a problem.

Hi Emma.

There is a birth registered in the Jan-March quarter 1967 for an Angela Smith, MMN Smith, in Liverpool. No way of knowing if connected obviously.

I would have suggested registering your details on the National Adoption Register, but a member has recently stated that in order to do this, you need the DOB of the adopted person, which obviously you will not have. Birth certs can't be ordered if less than 50 years old.

I would make some inquiries nevertheless, just to check.

You might also contact Liverpool social services and explain your plight. If they can locate the record of adoption, it might be possible to have your contact details attached to this. At least your mother had an unusual 1st name, which is a help.

Do make sure you create a family tree on here, just in case Angela ever goes looking for her birth family.

Good luck!

Hello there
Long shot I know but I am trying to search for my adopted half sister who was born Angela Smith to my Mum Adrienne Smith in either January 1966 or January 1967. My Mum died in 1998 and tried to contact her through the salvation army but as there was no internet or google back then she was unsuccessful. As I am an only child, I would dearly love to make contact with her. There is nobody left to ask who knew anything else about the adoption that is why I am torn between the 2 years. any help or advice would be very greatfully received. Many thank you's Emma :-)
