If you look on FreeBMD:

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

there are no Johnny/Johnnies born that year.

How about John?

In 1951, there are 1 in Sheffield reg district, 1 in Middlesborough reg, and 1 in Leeds reg - no idea if any of them cover Howden!

As Yorkshire was broken up into Ridings, the parameters were East Riding of Yorkshire, North Riding of Yorkshire, West Riding of Yorkshire.

Do you know his mother's maiden name? If not, if you can find his parents marriage, it might be possible to search for his birth incorporating her maiden name
