Verena Hanni working in Bromley Kent circa 1947

Paul Report 9 Jun 2014 03:35

I was adopted at birth in 1947 and am trying to track down anything I can find out about my natural mother.

Her name was (is) Verena Hanni, of Thierachern, KI Bern. She gave birth to Stephan Leslie Hanni (my birth name) on June 26, 1947, in Farnborough Hospital Kent - name of the father is not on the birth certificate. At the time she was working as a domestic at 9 Blythe Road, Bromley, Kent.

It is possible she also went by the name Vreni as this is a popular Swiss shortening of her name.

If anyone can give me any clues it would be most appreciated.

Since it is possible that Verena is no longer alive I will post this request on the "search for ancestors" board.

Thanks...Paul Gregory

Welcome to the boards, Paul.

Are there any further details about her on your adoption files?

Including this so you can discount her if she stayed in Brazil.

Looks like parents Gottfried and Martha and 7 children:

Thank you for the Brazil connection. I had just recently found that potential link and was going to see if I could find any evidence of her going to UK from Brazil - but there appears to be nothing in the travel section. Ant thoughts?

Also I will delete the other posting - I just wanted to make sure I covered all bases, not knowing if she is still alive.

If they moved to Brazil would they have changed their names to fit in?

Paul Report 10 Jun 2014 06:50

If they changed their name in Brazil then Verena changed it back when she came to UK but she probably would have kept the name Vreni or Verena.

Regarding my adoption files, I am travelling at the moment and cannot check the records I have at home. But I believe I have included everything I know so thanks for your help.
