Perhaps as a last resort Lynn gets someone to ring Betty's brother on her behalf
& ask .. you can find out a lot without disclosing the main reason !
He may even know but best not to wait too long , as we ALL not getting any younger.
At least Lynn may get a photo etc.

Hello All. Thank you all so very much for all the information and sorry for not thanking you sooner but I have been out all day. Most of this is all completely new to me and so I am still getting used to knowing about this new family. I will get copy certificates as you suggest for more information. I would be grateful if you could let me know how you have been able to access Janet's family tree info as I would like to do that as well. When I tried I couldn't access it or see any with Donald's info on it. I would really like to know more about Betty Cotton my birth mother who was a hairdresser from Bolton. I fear she may have passed away and may have been known under another surname. Thank you all for your help...it has made such a difference to me. xxx

On Janet's tree she has herself as Smith nee Jackson...which would indicate she stayed with her mother....maybe that's how she knew of another child born to a Betty Cotton

Not sure why Donalds birth and death reg's needed to be sent privately he died almost 30 years ago

I have sent the data , his DOB & sadly his death to Lynn & she has read it.
( not acknowleged though )

I also suggested buying Janet's birth certificate as we have her address from her GRFT. data sent & Manchester Registry office address

It is possible she was not adopted but her mum married a Smith.

Thank you for your help. I think I need a tutorial on how to use GR website!! How did you find out that Donald is on 2 other peoples family trees? Is Betty on anyone else's family tree? My adoptive name is Cotton and I am Janet's half sister.

It looks like Janet was born 1957 as Jackson......so is Smith her married name or was she also adopted?

There is a marriage for a janet A Jackson to a Smith in 1984 in Bolton...but not seeing anything that stands out as being her

Lynn, you need to put your parent's names in your tree. That way, people can find you. I see Janet has Betty in her tree but not Donald. 2 other people have Donald in their trees.

Can anyone help me find Janet Smith originally from the Bolton Lancashire area. who posted in 2007 that she was looking for her half sister who was adopted as a baby ( surnameCotton) in 1957? Janet's father was Donald Philip Hayes.
I have tried replying to the posts but I think Janet may have changed email addresses as I have had no reply.
Any help would be much appreciated.
