What leads you to think he had any traceable descendants?
Have you looked for info?

there are numerous results on a search for Giot in Jersey archives
http://search.jerseyheritage.org/search/simple
for instance
http://search.jerseyheritage.org/Details/archive/110022678
Title: Royal Militia Island of Jersey attestation form of Ernest Walter Giot Reference: L/F/97/M22/238 Date: 1940-05-13 - 1940-05-13 Dimensions: 1 Paper Language: English To view or order a photocopy of this document please email Jersey Archive - [email protected] Name: Ernest Walter Giot Royal Jersey Militia
his attestation form could have the name of a next of kin
in the list here
http://search.jerseyheritage.org/Details/archive/110008279
these names also appear:
Victoriwe Marie Giot Alice Maud Giot Charles Sidney Giot
leading to
http://search.jerseyheritage.org/Details/archive/110242056
Title: Will and Testament of Alice Maud Giot, of 2, King George V Memorial Homes, St Aubin's Road, St Helier and formerly of 33, Le Geyt Flats, St Saviour. Dated 11/05/1970. [Includes one closed document] Reference: D/Y/B1/212/42 Date: 1974-10-17 - 1974-10-17 Dimensions: 3 papers Language: English To view or order a photocopy of this document please email Jersey Archive - [email protected]
there could be a relationship and the will could provide valuable information
the family in 1901
Peter G Giot 45 Maria Giot 30 Ernest Giot 17 Elvina Giot 21 Hilda Giot 19
(I can't find them in 1891) so those would be other names to look for at Jersey Archives (Giott may be another spelling)
for instance, WWII registration card/form of Elvina Georgina Piquet née Giot born 21/08/1979
http://search.jerseyheritage.org/Details/archive/110128449 http://search.jerseyheritage.org/Details/archive/110128451
I went to the links before, after and between them but there does not seem to have been any other Piquet with her at her address
just looking in the phone book finds two Giot listings in St Helier at present
http://www.thephonebook.bt.com/publisha.content/en/search/residential/search.publisha?Surname=giot&Location=JERSEY++{+-+CHANNEL+ISLES}&x=0&y=0
but no Piquet listings
Given Ernest's father's name this record would seem related
http://search.jerseyheritage.org/Details/archive/110058085 http://search.jerseyheritage.org/Details/archive/110058084
Registration [Card/Form] of Peter George Giot, of Shangrila, Rue Verte, St Lawrence born 03/06/1910, [name], registered as child on back of form Date: 1941-01-08 - 1941-01-08
and I omit the name of the child because that is one of the people for whom there is a telephone listing in the current directory - if you go to the above link for the name and then check the telephone listing link you will see it

for some reason, Ernest was in the Canadian Expeditionary Forces in WWI
(I accidentally searched all military records at Ancestry instead of UK records, and that turned up the Canadian record to which I don't have access there, but free access is here)
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/cef/001042-100.01-e.php
two separate records
1915 lists sister Alvina Geogina Giot as next of kin, attested at Tidworth? http://data2.archives.ca/cef/gpc005/353743a.gif
1918 lists wife Grace (Gargan?) Giot as next of kin and gives his address in Halifax, Nova Scotia where he was certified unfit for health reasons http://data2.archives.ca/cef/gpc005/353744a.gif
marriage in Nova Scotia records, the original image can be viewed by searching here https://www.novascotiagenealogy.com/
Ernest W Giot and Grace Arnold, Halifax County, 1917 he was 34, she 19 his parents Geoge and ?? Giot
Ernest's immigration to Canada https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/2HLJ-5BL May 1914, Halifax NS, aged 30

Hi Reggie, Jax, and Jooni Cloonie. thank you for your replies. I will be looking at your suggestions and sites that you ve listed. Just to let you know that my Great Grandmother on my Mothers side was George Giot's [b1855/6] Daughter. at some point they moved to Guernsey, and it looks as if he married twice. Ernest was his son so he would have been my Great Great Uncle. Not much is known about the Giots from living Descendants over here. Anyway, thanks for getting in touch aj

for completeness, Ancestry incoming passenger lists shows Ernest Giot Grace Giot Hilda Giot returning to Liverpool in 1921
I don't subscribe for access to view the records, but it would appear that Hilda was their child (no birth date shown) but probably was born too late for the privacy cut-off in Nova Scotia birth records

I wonder whether Hilda married in England during WWII
Marriages Jun 1943 Cartmail William L Giot Holderness 9d 275 Giot Hilda L Cartmail Holderness 9d 275
if you search here
http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl
you will find 3 births to that marriage (surname Cartmail, mother Giot)
if you use google to search for the sons' names in this form
"john x smith" 192.com
you will find current electoral roll listings for them that you can then use to find the matching listings for both in the telephone directory http://www.thephonebook.bt.com/publisha.content/en/search/residential/search.publisha
it would seem a reasonable likelihood that they are grandsons of Ernest
A Hilda Cartmail was on the electoral roll to 2008 so she may have died after that unfortunately.

and just another little thing about France
http://www.geopatronyme.com/
if you enter the name Giot in the search box you will get a map of births going back only to the period after 1891 but it gives a clear idea of where the surname is concentrated, particularly in the department of Manche on the Channel
if you do identify an ancestor born in France (which would seem to be pre-census era) that site has links on the lower left to where you can search each Department for 'actes' (BMDs) going back to the 1500s in some cases
