Louise, Helen's name has been mistranscribed at Ancestry, her middle name is spelt wrong.

You can take out a 14-day free trial subscription there (just cancel before the time is up to avoid charges) and you can add a correction to that record. In it, you can put an explanation saying just that you are a family member and wish to make contact, and leave an email address to reach you. Best to have a permanent (anonymous) online account like at Gmail where you will always be able to access messages (you can have mail forwarded to other accounts too).

You can do the same for any other records at Ancestry that could be relevant.

There is a Ross + Jones marriage in Dudley in 1977.

The name of the husband in that marriage is not the most common, as Jones goes :-) , and there is a birth in 1951 that could match ... and this death would match that birth

Name: Clifford William Jones
Birth Date: 27 May 1951
Date of Registration: Dec 1983
Age at Death: 32
Registration District: Birmingham
Inferred County: West Midlands
Volume: 32
Page: 0701

could this be a circumstance that would explain the adoption(s)?

if it seems this could be related, you can also get a copy of that certificate to see whether a family member was the informant, for example.

There is a Helen Jones born 1980 in Dudley in a member's tree here ... there was only one Helen Jones born in Dudley that year and I think you would want to contact that person.

I saw it on Ancestry. You don't need a membership to search but you do need a login.

Look for Jones births in Dudley with mother's maiden name Ross.

There is another Jones/Ross girl born in Dudley a little later. Are you aware of this?

Have a read of this link as there is some useful information

https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/the-adoption-contact-register

Once you are more sure of your details, you can either post the names here or look for marriages and then check to see if the people are listed on the Electoral Roll.
192.com is a good site for that.

The adoptee's brother was also adopted, she could add the verified details of the birth names and parent(s) to the Adoption Contact Register (on the same link) and hope that he has to.

You will need to know the exact date of birth;

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp

Added:
Sorry, you will need to know:

'Q7. Can I order a certificate for events which have taken place during the last 50 years?

GRO has a policy in place where full identifying information is requested for applications where the event occurred in the last 50 years. You will be prompted to supply this information when you order online and in the case of births, will be asked for the forename and surname recorded in the entry, the date and place of birth, father’s full name (if shown in the entry) and mother’s maiden name (if applicable). '

This is connected to an adoption. I have no record of the agency used and don't know how to find that information. How do I order a copy of the original birth certificate? Thanks so much, am new on this so any advice is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to GR Louise.

There are a lot of 'may have's ' in your post! What, please, is the connection to the lady in question? Do you actually know her name but are being discrete?

Is this connected to an adoption? If so ask the adoptee to contact the agency to access their adoption file. The name of the mother and the circumstances surrounding the adoption will be shown.

In the meantime, you could order a copy of the original birth certificate which will name the parent(s) including the mother's maiden name if she was married.

Try using the 'search all trees' facility with the names you are relatively sure and send a message to the tree owners. Its unlikely that she (they) will just pass by and spot this thread.

With a bit more information, we might be able to help you to be proactive :-)

I am looking for a woman who gave birth in October 1980, to a girl, believed to be called Helen Marie Jones, and registered the birth in Dudley, near Birmingham. The name of this woman is Ross (maiden name) and potential married name is Jones. Though this is unsure. There is potentially a brother or half brother as well. The woman was working in a cake shop at the time and the father of the child was a drummer, or musician. This is all the information we have. Please get in touch!
