My mother was born in Devon area in 1935. She was placed in an orphanage as a baby. Father was Austin as per birth certificate. Mother maiden name was Norris and married Kelway-Bamber. We have never found her family. Pls make contact if you know anything. Gisela

Welcome to the board Gisela. Have you used the 'Search' at top right of page to see if anyone has your mother or parents in their tree?

Gisela, i can see the Norris/Kelway-Bamber marriage on Freebmd. Have you bought that cert to see what age Mary Norris was, and for details of her father (if known)?

if asking for help it is best to give all information known, e.g. parents Austin and Norris, first names?

Kelway-Bamber + Norris marriage was 1930.

there were children born 1935, 1945

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

search for births for surname kelway-bamber with mother norris

the 1945 birth was also registered under another (father's) surname

... search also for births with surname Bamber and mother Norris and there is another child 1933 registered without the hyphen, registered only under Bamber / Kelway Bamber, so a child of the marriage ?

I am NOT putting the name and birth details here as the people may be living

.......... however, there is this on line about one of the children

http://www.missing-you.net/people/jocelynhkelway-bamber-133751.php

....... edit, I seem to have found the same search but by a different person ??

That message refers to three daughters of Mary, the person who posted it is a daughter of one of them. If this is not someone you know, a message can be sent to her through that system.

Actually that person has a tree here at this site with the child born 1933 in it .... just Search All Trees for the surname Kelway-Bamber born 1933, there are three people who have her in their tree. One of them also has Dorothy.

place your mouse over Search at the top of the page and select Search All Trees

The child born in 1945 probably married under the other registered surname in 1963 in Newmarket.

possibly remarried with given name misspelt in 1984

The child born in 1933 married in 1954 as Kelway-Bamber.

Geraldine on this site seems to have all these names in her tree on here.

Go to Search at the top and then Search All Member Trees.

oops I was just editing my first message to say that, the person who placed the message on the other site is one of the other people with the name in her tree here.

Unless Irene already knows the families of these half-sisters and is looking only for more info about Dorothy's parents, we don't know ............

Can't figure out how/if the other child registered in 1945 with MMN Norris is related.

Rose if you read that link I posted, all three seem to be sisters or it seems half-sisters with the same mother.

the first probably a child of the marriage, the second two (10 years apart) with different fathers but registered as children of the marriage because mother was married, and also registered under real father's surname (check the list on the page for each birth at Freebmd)

Joonie,

There's another one with a different forename registered in 1945 with MMN Norris but same surname beginning with T.

She also married in Newmarket. It would appear they were twins but why register one with an alternate surname and not the other?

JoonieCloonie Report 18 Jan 2014 22:48

Rose, I wondered about that too !
... and then I kept looking for the one and forgot to think about the other

The one child is actually shown three ways, Kelway-Bamber, Bamber and the father's name (images show all three in the index).

(Gisela if you are following, find the 1945 birth at Freebmd and click on the page number to see the list of names)

I suspect some confusion at the registry office and the birth certificates might show the registration under both names in both cases :-)

Maybe the parents thought they had said it once and that was enough to cover both children but it didn't work out !

it does seem to mean there is a fourth sister though .........
