also there are several people at this site who have Cookes born in Ashreigney in the 1800s in their tree, just search for the surname and place

possibly

Name: Robert William Cooke
Birth Date: 25 Sep 1910
Date of Registration: Dec 1990
Age at Death: 80
Registration District: Barnstaple
Inferred County: Devon
Volume: 21
Page: 861

that is the only R W Cooke death in Devon since 1980

Births Dec 1910
COOKE Robert W Torrington 5b 383

you may know this part - in 1911 in Ashreigney

Robert Cooke 48
Susan Cooke 29
Lilian Mary Cooke 3
Robert William Cooke 6/12

and for heaven's sake why did Ancestry not give me this before (oops it did, I missed it), this is the address

Colehouse, Ashreigney, Chulmleigh, North Devon

and Robert Sr is a farmer

so it was in the family quite a long time.

Ashreigney, I finally found by searching censuses, is in Torrington registration district

No one named Cook/e has died in that district between 1967 and 2007.

there were earlier deaths

Charles H Cook 1871-1936
Lillian E Cook 1872-1933
Eleanor Cooke 1853-1916
Annie Cooke 1994-1918

in fact they seem to be the only Cook/e deaths in that district ever since 1916

so the cousin must have moved elsewhere before he died ... or is still living.

In 1911 there was a Pope family at

Colehouse Farm, Merton, Dolton R.S.O, Devon

which is also in Torrington district so it must be the farm

here you are

from 1960 up to 1983, this listing was in the telephone directory

Name: R W Cooke
Address: Colehouse Fm
Exchange: Ashrelgny
Publication Year: 1981
Directory County: Devon, Cornwall
Page Number: 44

at least now you have his initials !

If you Google Colehouse Farm you will see there's a Mr Chester there now.

Yup. No joy.

My friend knew an old cousin living there some 40 years ago (!) but he is probably long since deceased. He can't remember his name, address...The Cooke family farmed at Cole (Coal) House farm for 200years+, but things have changed!

Think you need more specific names for anyone to do any look ups

Have you tried BTOnline phonebook ?

Please could someone help find any COOK or COOKE addresses or telephone numbers for people living in or around Ashreigney, Devon.

They, and their descendants, used to be associated with COLE HOUSE FARM.

Many thanks.
