Fred died over 33 years ago now and that address doesn't match the possible one I've found on the Electoral Roll for Roy.

I've found Valerie now. Her mothers maiden name was listed as Monks which is why I couldn't find her, I put Bates in when I searched.

I'm dead chuffed that you've found other siblings for me, I can pass that information on to the family now. They were surprised when I said there were no other siblings, but I was searching for full siblings, never thought to search for anything else.

So it would appear that all three children were adopted in June 1965? I've found a possible birth entry for Allan Eastwood in March 1939, but couldn't find one for Valerie. I've found a Valerie Bates, born in 1946 in Ashton, but by that time Doris was a Monks??

The family thought Fred had had further children, but it looks like he adopted them rather than having any more.

Very strange that Roy is an Eastwood on Fred's death certificate.

That Roy you mention was later registered under the name Knowles in June quarter 1965 so it looks as though Fred adopted him. There also appears to be a sister Valerie and a brother Allan.

Unclear who Roy then went back to his birth surname, but you will need to search for him under Knowles too.

Doris Knowles died in the quarter of March 1980. In order to try and find a year of birth for Roy, I searched for a marriage between a "Doris" and an "Eastwood". There were several, but settled on the one in 1949 where Doris' maiden name was Bates (the area of Cheshire fits too).

Roy Eastwood mmn Bates (born in 1943) was the only one that fits.

Hopefully that makes more sense.

Sorry, that won't help. I worked back that Roy was born in 1943 (if I've got that right), although a possible marriage of Doris to his father was 1949, so I'm really confused.

Fred Knowles married a Doris Eastwood in the quarter of JAS 1961 in Ashton in Lancs.

I didn't put the year of birth and place of birth for Roy in case I was putting too much information. No-one has this Roy in their tree and I can't match anything up in the Electoral Rolls either.

What was your friend's father's name and when/where was he born? We need to know this so we can find a marriage to an Eastwood to trace the correct Roy.

I'm trying to trace a Roy Eastwood who was the informant (step-son) on a friend's father's death certificate.

If I have the right Roy Eastwood, he was born early 1940s in Cheshire.

My friend never knew her father as he left when she was little, so if I can find out a little bit of information for her, that would be great.
