Find Living Relatives

has anyone got any idea of how to track down a lady called e. a. thomas [maiden name may be richardson] who was living in Erdington, Bormingham, England in 1958. I have tried the electoral register for 1957, but with no success as i do not know her first names. She registered the death of a mutual aunt.

These are possible marriages of E a Richardson to Thomas from free bmd - do either make sense?

The electoral register in 1957 is searchable by address only so first names won't help you.

There are quite a few deaths of E A Thomas in the Birmingham area and Warwickshire area.

Could you give us the name of your aunt, and information about her siblings and husband, as there are several ways of acquiring the 'aunt' relationship.

Is her address on the death cert?

And what is her 'qualification' on said cert? i.e. her authority to register the death

What have you done to try to identify her?

E A Thomas registered the death of Jennie Friedrichs in 1957 . E A Thomas was her niece and they lived at the same address. However, aunty Jenny was born in Gateshead in 1878, never married and moved to Taunton in Somerset where she lived until the early 1950s. Our family lost touch with her and she moved to Erdington where she died in 1958. We had relatives called Richardson in the Birmingham area and the last word of them is in the 1911 census. I think E A Thomas must from that family but no one with whom I am in touch has heard of her. The address is on the death certificate.

The best thing is to check the address on the electoral register. Hopefully she will show up on there.
You need to do this in person, or ask a member of staff to do so - they may charge.
Alternatively, I shall be visiting the archives at some point and would be happy to check for you.

I have been in touch with Ann re. electoral register lookup. It seems the person in question is Ethel A. Thomas.

I am happy to check out register when I visit the archives. However, having had a bit of a rummage, I might have found something.

Searching on Ancestry for the address on the cert, this person turns up:

Grateful thanks to brummiejan and to patchem for discovering so much about Ethel A Thomas and family. My research mostly has been in Scotland and I am not so familiar with the English system. You have found so much info for me that I will be kept busy for ages. Jenny Friedrichs was the sister of Lindsay Todd Richardson's wife who died in childbirth in 1907 so I don't think she was a blood relative of Jenny and that threw me too.

I am sure the above sorts it out, but I shall double-check the electoral register anyway. Birmingham has a brand new central library which I haven't visited yet, so it will be good practice!
