trying to find my birth mother

Buy your birth cert to find out your mother's forename(s)

Add yourself to the national adoption contact register...........

And be aware that your birth mother's current family may not know of your existence............so don't try to make contact with her directly, even if you do find out where she is now

If a child is fostered before an application is made to adopt then the potential adoptive parents have the full name of the child in their care.so a birth certificate isnt always needed. by an adoptee to know a birth name.

You can order certs from here £9.25

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

How do you know your birth name if you do not have a birth cert or adoption file?

This is the official site for certificates - others charge more so do not use them:

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp

I have given you the volume and page numbers.

Information about births, marriages and deaths can be found for free on free bmd, but that 1964 birth does nor show as free bmd does not yet have full coverage.

Your adoption file should have details, have you applied for that also?

Do you have your adoption file and your birth certificate? It will list your birth mum's details.
