Find Living Relatives

Am trying to find my Dad's Cousin born 'Doreen Patricia STAPLES' in 1937 in East London.
Her Mum died giving birth & her Dad adopted her @ the time.
I live in Australia, so hard to find any info.

Why would her father need to adopt her?

According to the birth reg'n her parents were probably married

Reggie, they were married. I think he had her adopted as he couldn't cope. Only guessing.

The best chance you have of finding anything is if she is in a tree on here....................look in 'search all trees'

Could some one advise? I was under the impression that if a person was adopted, a notation was added to their birth entry on the GRO index.
Doreen's entry has nothing against it.
If I'm correct, then she wasn't formally adopted athough it's possible that she took her foster carer's surname.

She was likely to have been evacuated out of London during WW2, even overseas There is also the possibility that she could have been sent from a Children's Home to one of the Colonies - Canada, Australia or New Zealand - after the war as she'd still only have been around 8 years old in 1945.

As Reggie has suggested, search trees on here, and make sure that you have both her parents on your own tree.

If you are convinced that she was adopted, then add your name to the Adoption Contact Register, and hope that she has done the same.

Two male GR members have Minnie in their trees..........check them out

I have searched 'All Trees' on here. On her Birth Certificate [which I have a Copy] it has Adopted on the end of it. She was not Adopted by her mother's side of the Family. I have not even been able to find any info on her Dad's Family after 1911.
We found a photo of a girl aged about 3yrs or 4yrs with the name "Doreen' written on the back. We beleive that is her. I dont know if her Dad had any sisters, He may have had a Brother.
Thanx for all the Help. I will not give up on finding her. Hopefully someone on this site Knows of her.

We have added her name to the Adoption Register in London. She has to come forward, so we just have to wait.

The way adoption was noted has been changed over the years in the 1970s a small s was put against the page nos so anyone ordering the birth cert would only get the small version ie not showing any parents names.
