I'm looking for my birth mother/family whose surname is Rudd. I believe she comes from Devon. I was born on 13th February 1965 in Worcester and was named Rachel Rudd. I was adopted by a couple called Woodland who lived in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire. I don't wish to cause anyone any distress however as my own children are now coming to an age where they are getting married and thinking about having children I would like to be able to fill in some of the gaps for them

Welcome to the boards, Jane.

As you believe she comes from Devon, presumably you have more information about her.
Have you read the guidance at the top of this board, and got further information including your files and birth certificate?
It just helps us to know what you have done so far.

Do you know how old your mother was when she gave birth to you?

Between 1940 and 1950 there were 11 births of females with the surname Rudd in Devon. If you know her first name you could look in "search" and then "search all trees" at the top of the page to see if anyone on Genes has this lady in their tree. If they do you can then contact them directly.

EDIT - I've just checked and at least some of these females are on member's trees on here.

Jane

I have sent you, your birth reg details,, if you have not already done so please order a copy of your Birth cert, to get her full name.
It may not be that your Mother was local to that area, many unwed Mums where sent to Mother and Baby homes to give birth.
I have also sent you a link to a group that may help. Good Luck with your search :)

Thanks everyone. I do know her christian names and age and have found her birth record, I just left them off here to protect her privacy. I also have my original birth certificate and adoption papers. Unfortunately because it was a private adoption arrangdd by The Convent of the Holy Name in Malvern Link which has now moved to Derbyshire there don't appear to be any records other then the ones I have. I've contacted Worcestershire Socil services and they couldn't help!!

As you don't wish to name her on an open site -

Search for marriages yourself and then under her married name on 192.com. Double check in case she has married more then once in which case subsequent marriages are most likely to be listed under the last surname - eg Rudd m a Black. Then went on to marry a Green - you'd need to look for a Black to Green reg.

As you have her birth reg which would give mothers maiden name, look for other births with same combination of father's surname and mothers maiden name. If any are found, they could be her siblings. Try and trace those or their descendents as they may know of your mother's where-abouts.
