Thank you Reggie and Jan - I have done and written to some with very little in the way of reply - one message is (or was last I looked) unopened after many months.

Welcome to the boards Lee.
It's not very likely that anyone researching this name will see your thread.
Can I suggest you check to see if any other members have Banfathers in their tree? Go to search box above and select 'search all trees. You can send a message if you find any matches.

Sometime during the 1600s, or so it appears!, some members of the BaRnfather family arrived in the Norwich area of Norfolk. By the early 1700s, the 'r' had been pretty much dropped and the name became Banfather there. The relationship between the two names was proven when representatives of each name (and, also, the Bairnsfather family) participated in the Viking DNA Study conducted by University College London some 11 years ago.

Members of the combined family (all three names) meet every two years and this year (2012) we are going to Norwich for 3 days. While we have a few members of the Banfather family who will attend, we are trying to contact others who might have an interest in their family history and might like to come along if only for a brief visit. The numbers of Banfathers in Norfolk were never great - while it's relatively easy to trace down through the male lines, it becomes a bit harder in the case of female Banfathers who married.

If anyone reading this is a Banfather or a Banfather descendant, please reply to this post! Lee Bridge
