I've been asked to help search for my step dads birth mother, he was born in Hackney, London in 1962 and registered Michael John Sheppard. He has no details of his birth mother at all. She had him in Hackney Hospital on 16/10/1962 which was run by the salvation army, and was adopted in May 1963 aged 7 months.

He's hoping there is someone out there who could offer some information as to his mother.

Advise him to apply for his adoption papers, and to add himself to the national adoption contact register

He has his adoption certificate but no name on it for his birth mum, have made him aware that he can get a copy of his birth certificate though so will pursue that and hopefully get some answers.

Spotted that already thank you Sylvia. He's only just found out at 50 what his original birth name was.

The above has the form to complete to apply for original birth certificate and adoption files - the service is free, and should provide more details than just ordering the original birth certificate. Only your step dad can apply though.
