Looking for relatives of this gentleman who I believe is my fathers father. My dad was born November 1929 Arthur Smith. His mother was a school teacher who lived in Ludgershall and may have taught there or in Tidworth.

Do you have your parents marriage certificate?

If your father is Smith how come his father is Rigsby?

The Bertie who married in CIrencester had plenty of children in that area. I hate to think he left his new wife for a quick jaunt south.

Linda thank you for your pm

Have you tried contacting the two people that seem to have this man in their tree?

Linda

Linda Report 21 Sep 2012 22:16

Yes I hate to think he left his wife for a quick fling in the south too but he was a soldier and possibly got posted away from home. I have contacted those two people but they are saying it could not have been him.If he did have a fling then they may not know or want to know I guess. Looks like a dead end here. Thankyou. Linda

Linda,

Where did you get the name from?

If this Bertie were still a soldier in 1929, he certainly spent a lot of time at home going by all the children born.

On Ancestry you said:

"His father was reportedly a Bert Rigsby who wanted to marry Edna but her father would not allow it."

Bertie born Down Ampney was already married, so that doesn't fit with the story.

You say you have a photo of him. Have you sent this to the contacts you mention?

I have just read the ancestry posts and you say his name may not be Bertie but that was what he was known as?

So his name could be anything Herbert, Hubert, Albert.....do you have any idea how old he would have been in 1929?

There is a Herbert born 1894 who did not marry until 1932 and he did serve in WW1 so he may have stayed on to be a regular soldier?....He was from Liverpool, but that does'nt mean he was not stationed down south
