I have just realised that Anthony Dunleavy, if the 1945 birth is correct, was only 18/19 at the time.

This is important, at the time you were not allowed on the list for quarters until you were 21. This may be the same with hirings. As there was a wife and a child they may have relented and allowed him into a hiring but it may be that he had to be in a private rented house.

If this is the case it may be more difficult to find anyone who knows anything.

Sorry :-(

You must have your dates wrong re mother, where did you get them from?

Bebbies could be Greek or Greek Cypriot. Bebbies is not an obvious Greek name but it could be an English version of a Greek first or surname or a nickname which are popular out here. One reason I say it's not a Greek name is that there is no B in Greek, all those who say we all know alpha beta are wrong, alpha veta is how it's pronounced.

Some of the names are a tongue twister. As an example, some of the streets have the name of their heroes, ours is Konstantinou Palaiologou. We get wonderful versions of the name from UK.

The rented out house could be a hiring, which is officially rented accomodation. The rent would be deducted from the pay of the squaddie and furnished as a quarter would be. This is done when there are insufficient houses for requirements. It could also be privately rented as some people do not like quarters but the landlord has to furnish or the squaddie has to hire furniture. The cheapest was a hiring in most cases.

In1964 it would be close to Dhekalia or Larnaca as there was little else there. Ayia Napa was a very small village even in the early 70s.

There are many ex service Brits out here, many ex army live in the Larnaca area, look on line for army associations out here or try a contact via Cyprus Mail the local paper in English, also on line. You don't have to go into too much detail e.g. born in Dhekalia lived in a possible hiring owned by Bebbies and ask for more detail of the area and if anyone remembers Bebbies or the Bebbies. No toes trod on.

Without a proper name you will have great difficulty finding your father.

At the moment that's all I can think of. Sorry it's doesn't get you any nearer.

Pat :-)

Did your mum marry in 1961 if so she could not have been born 1947

If she was born 1947 she would have been approx 17 when you was born is that correct?

Hi my name is John Paul Dunleavy I was born dec 1964 in the British Military Hospital Dhekelia, Cyprus and was the product of an extra marital affair. My mum Sheila Dunleavy was born in 1942 but sadly died in 2008 only leaving me limited information on my biological father. My birth certificate names my sisters father as my father (Private 23886391 R.A.S.C - Anthony Dunleavy), my biological father was in the Raider Forces was born around 1940 - 1945 ish he or his family rented out houses to the squaddies and the only name I have to go on is Bebbies and 2 photo's of him (one is my profile picture) but don't know if Bebbies was his surname or first name. Any help where else I can try to look him up would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
John.
