WOW! Thank you for pointing that out Reggie. I hadn't given that a thought, and have just realised that this page comes up in Google searches. I've been through and tidied my comments up.

He wasn't married to my mum, though he did have a previous marriage which I presume he divorced from.

The Land Registry only holds records of properties which have changed hands since its inception

I think you would be wise to delete the details of the various marriages. The people concerned may not wish to have their info on this insecure site

The only way you can determine whether any of them was the person you are seeking is to order cert(s) including the name of his father

Was he married to your mother?

If so, did they divorce?

Birth certificate has arrived in the post, so I now have a date of birth 26/08/1941.

After the marriage of Christopher A Fox in 1968 I can find two children in the London/Herts area. There don't appear to be any other children.

I know that the Christopher A Fox that I am looking for was in Potters Bar from the Electoral Register of 1972. I wonder if it might be possible to see if this man comes up on the Electoral register for Camberwell/Lewisham, at the address on the marriage certificate, 1972/73/74, as this would rule this man out.

I'll also search the Electorol Register for 1970/71 for the Potters Bar address, as again, this would rule him out.

I'll also check with my mum about 2 daughters, or if it was just two children.

This is so difficult, I'm so worried about jumping to conclusions.

Mum said that his parents were Irish, but I don't hink she recalls him having an Irish accent. I'll check this with her.

There are a few marriages with just Christopher Fox, one in Islington in 1960, then one in the Wirrel and one in Plymouth in 1963, one in Ashton, Lancashire in 1965, one in Dudley in 1965.

Then there is the marriage of a Christopher A Fox in Camberwell, London in 1968 - 4 years before I was born, and probably the most likely since mum said he had two daughters. I could get the marriage certificate for this one to check the date fo birht against the birth certificate I have sent offf for.

Then there are two more in 1970, one in Bishop's Stortford and another in Sutton.

Then there are a few for a Christopher A Fox after he moved from 96a High Street,

The electoral registers at 96a High Street from 1972-1978 show the following names at the same address:

1972 - John Ife, David Turner and Michael G Young
1974 - Martin Brannan, Elizabeth Garnham, Barry Gower
1975 - 1978 - Steve Derx, Martin Brannan, Barry Gowers

I cant see a marriage that could fit the time frame so wonder if that may have been in Ireland too

Just realised that the Electorol Roll says he lived in Potters Bar until 1978, so moved just before the leasehold and freehold that the Land Registry have started in 1979.

I've searched the Electoral Roll for him in High St. Potters Bar, which bought up this full address and his middle initial. I think he was the owner of the property and had a lodger, but the land registry have said that the deeds they have only go back to 1979. I'll search the archives in Potters Bar to see if they have anything earlier.

The man that helped me at Potters Bar archives said that its not possible to search Hemel Hempstead Electoral Roll by name, only address, is that right?

My mum thinks he moved to Hemel Hempstead after living in Potters Bar but has no address for him.

She also remembers him being called the nickname 'CAP'.

I've ordered the birth certificate for the only Christopher A Fox born in England between 1935 and 1945, and there is only one born in Swindon in1941, and I guess when this arrives in the post I could research his parents to see if the parents of this Christopher A Fox were born in Ireland. I'll also check the same year range for a birth with this name in Ireland.

I know that he was a salesman and that he drank in The Duke of York pub in Potters Bar.

I also know he was divorced when he met my mum and had two daughters from this marriage. I don't know their names, I'm hoping my mum will remember.

I've made a questionnaire for my mum in the hope that it jogs her memory for more information.

Thank you for caring.

If he wasnt the owner of the premises then the Land Registry wont help.

The electoral rolls would be better and these are usually held at the Main Library for the area

Is is possible he was born in Ireland too?

What more do you know about him ? without some tangible info its a bit like looking in the dark

I'm trying to find a Christopher A Fox who lived at 96a High Street, Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, EN65AT between 1972 and 1978. Think he was born Aug/September between 1938 - 1942 and that his parents were Irish. I don't know what the middle initial 'A' stands for.

I've found a birth record for a Christopher A Fox in Swindon in 1941, so I'll see if I can get a copy of the birth certificate in case it's him.

I've searched the Land Registry for the address, and downloaded copies of the leasehold and freehold but they only go back to 1979. Is it possible to get earlier ones?

This is all the information I have, can anyone give me some tips on what I can do to find him?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jean
