Trying to help my sister iin law trace a wartime friend. Both were in the Womens Land Army together. Stationed near Newbury. Friends name is/was Joan Seaton, born about 1930 in London. Her father was a green grocer. my sister in laws name is Gladys Winfield, but known as Tiny.Joan had a brother, think his name was George. Any info would be helpful. thanks :-) Celia Long

Look on here in 'search trees'

Try Friends reunited

When was the last contact?

And where was Joan at that time?

Look on freebmd and see if you can find a birth for her..and her brother. then you'll have accurate info on which to base a search

Kay???? Report 21 Aug 2012 20:54

Would she be born a little earlier than 1930?as in 1945 she would still say be only be 14-16....would that help you narrow down births and a possible birth place?

The one born in Greenwich had a brother called Leonard George.

Parents look to be

Marriages Dec 1926 (>99%)
Seaton Thomas H Williams Greenwich 1d 1802
Williams Elizabeth M Seaton Greenwich 1d 1802

If it helps.

Kay??? Yes it is possible Joan could be a little older. Both girls joined WLA in 1947. But my sister in law remembers celebrating Joans 21st birthday in a pub, with friends. That was the last time the two girls were together. That was in 1951.
thank you for the info Rose, will make a note of it. Regards celia

WLA was disbanded in Oct 1950,so a little more info that could help narrow it down it for you Celia.
