i you have a birth name try posting it and see if anyone looking for him !
it is easyer for an adopted person to look for bith parents than birth reletives looking for adopted family... contact local authority wher he thinks he was born (if known ) .

If you know the area he was adopted in, then you can contact the council. Most have a dedicated person who will be able to get his adoption file.If not first step is to get a copy of his original birth certificate. Also read Jonesys tips on Geneaology chat. Another good tip is to register with the national adoption register

No Katie you would not be able to view the certificate on here. You would have to order it from the GRO site.It will cost £9.25.You will need to look up the volume no and page no.You will find that on the entry where you found the birth.Good Luck

Can anyone give me some tips on where to start helping my partner trace his birth mother? All we have is his birth name and date, and place, of birth and her surname but not first name. Can you view original birth certificates on this site? We have found the birth record but need the birth certificate.
Many thanks, Katie.
