Have been trying to help a friend to find her father - she has been searching for several years without much luck.

Information is scant - his name was Bernard Matt and my friend was born in 1954 when she believes her father was about 25 years old. Her mother only gave her very little information about him and she has now passed away.

Her mother told her he was born in Norfolk and he was in the Navy during the war. They were not married so there is no marriage certificate to give us any more information.

My friend has a twin sister and was told her father had a twin brother.

To complicate matters, there was a rumour that he was actually American and not born in Norfolk at all. My friend's mother was living in the Weymouth/Portsmouth area where she was born.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

If he was in the navy in the war he must have been born before 1930, surely, as that would make him only 15 at war's end?
