If your friend can remember the date to within a couple of months then it would be better to apply to the court where the 'decree absolute' was granted the charge is only small abt £5/10 but if they need to do a search it can cost around £25/30

to use a solicitor you have to bear in mind what they charge heavily the last solicitor i used charged me £170 per hour plus expences and other costes? what ever they were:-S

If all else fails use the address provided in the second link i provided in my earlier post,

you can download the relevant application for from the link below

She needs to apply for a copy of her ***Decree Absolute***,,,,thats the only piece of proof of divorce she can get,,,,,,,

there is a charge for this,,the solicitor who handled her case can advise or to the court.

Roy, thank you for your reply. The person is taking citizenship of New Zealand and has been told she needs both her marriage and divorce papers in order to get this. As she is so far away it would be easier for me to try and get the information she needs to send to her. I will pass on the link and she can see for herself what she needs to do.

Thanks once again for your help.

It would depend on when the divorce was granted also you say the person "needs" them? I take it this was for a living person due to it being on this board

for older divorce records you can try the national archives but the survival rate of divorce case files is 1858-1927: almost 100% 1928-1937: 80% After 1937 less than 0.2%

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/divorce.htm

If the person you refer to wants a copy of their own 'decree absolute' then they can get a copy from the county court that issued it at a cost

Would anybody be able to tell me how I go about getting divorce papers please.

The person who needs them has given me all the details of the divorce but I don't know where to start looking.

Any help appreciated.

Many thanks
