You are right, she did think we might be related, and sent me a PM. We aren't though!

Another thing. Do you know his exact birth date? If he happened to die 1970-2006 this can be used to search for the record on Ancestry.

Roberta, I am not sure you meant to mark my posting as answered!
There are 4 births for Carter/Jarvis in the London area after 1948. I shall PM them to you. Obviously without getting the certs it isn't possible to say if they are your relatives. One is Woolwich so if you pursue any, I would go with that one.

This photo matches the one I found after my Fathers death.I have a photo of Bill taken before we left England in 1949.

Bill Jacques married Margaret Jarvis in 1948. The surname is a bit of a worry,as William (Bill) and My mother Violet were adopted by their Grandparents Walter and Agnes Carter. During my mothers adolesent years she was known as Carter, but reverted to Jacques when she was 21.

My mother never spoke of her brother,so it was a surprise when I found a photo and an address in Essex. This did not lead me anywhere. So many thanks to those who replied to my posting

Hi Roberta.
Firstly, welcome to the boards.
Try looking for matches by using 'search trees' to see if there are any matches - use all names you have.
I assume Bill was William. The surname is a bit unclear? Were he and Margaret siblings?

I am trying to find the children of Bill and Margaret Jacques / Carter. Bill was an uncle who I never had the chance to meet.I believe he spent time in the navy.

Bill and my mother Violet were adopted by their grandparents Walter and Agnes Carter about 1926.
