Is ironic that he is called Richard Wood though!

Hi all, firstly thank you so much for all your help I really appreciate it.
Your summary is right Jax; basically I started making my tree a couple of months ago and when I added my dad (by his birth name which is Richard Hopkins) it told me there was a tree match which I assumed must be just somebody else because dad was only called Richard Hopkins for about a week before his name was changed. All the same I clicked on the person to send a message and it said the tree was a Richard wood (a strange coincidence but only that!) then I added Grace Hopkins who is my grandmother and the same link appeared which must mean it is actually them. When you search Richard Hopkins 1949 others do come up in trees and I have looked at them all too but they are all owned by others and none of them have grace.
We are so interested to see more because we do think not many people knew about the whole thing so it would suggest that whoever this Richard wood is he may have some connection to dad/grace/dads father (who we know nothing about) that we don't know, it could answer some really big questions!

Sadly as you say it seems it is an old account; but I will keep hoping and maybe he may come back on one day or someone might read this and know him!

Thanks once again to all for your help!!

How I see it is

Richard Hopkins is Ruths fathers birth name before he was adopted

Richard Wood who has this person, plus the name of the birth mother is not Ruths dad

Hello Kenneth,

Replied and then deleted as your 9.38 appeared and answered my reply - thanks for that as I was getting all sort of imaginings about you!!!

You are great; I was getting so puzzled by this and sometimes you do wonder if it is only you, but Ruth will get there with our help.

I only picked up on Richard Hopkins as I felt that his membership connection may be more current than Richard Wood's. Ruth could then come in say by the 'back door' to get to find Richard Wood.

Still I could be wrong on this one.

Confusion excused.

Maria I am puzzled as to why you would have check to see
who had Richard Hopkins in their Tree, is Richard Hopkins related
to you. A silly question from me is Richard Wood`s GR membership
number definitely the same for your dad and Richard Hopkins.

Hi Ruth and Jax,

Well Ruth you may well be right. I was coming from this angle:
Search Records - Richard Hopkins, b. 1949 - Reading. This gives you 1 Birth; 1 Marriage; 3 Deaths, etc.,

When you go into the 1 Birth - it gives you Richard J . Reading, etc. Click on View and you will go to the next step. This is where you may find that you can View Original Record and just below that it states that Richard John Hopkins b., 1949 Reading appears in 25 Trees. Click on this and you have more than Richard Wood.

Then naturally the process of eliminating begins.

I do not think you are being silly and missing anything, because only you will know that any connection is not your family. But I have found and I think Jax will agree here that people put in, for instance a year of birth and they may be guessing (not referring to yourself) and when a connection is made they find that they have the wrong year, etc. One has to always have a go and approach - you cannot do any harm. Make sure you remove the tick that says share your tree at the bottom of the message area so that you do not give access without knowing if the connection is related to you.

My suggestion (an it was only that) - this long shot may bring something or nothing.

Again Good Luck.

Maria.

Jax I see that too. The membership number is old so I think it unliklely he is picking up on this.

Keep trying Ruth. - Just another thought - you ask if anyone has him in their tree - try spreading the family names and search these too.

Also Jax not my father no, good detective skills mind!

Hi Maria, I will try this thank you!

Edit -
Have just looked but the Richard Hopkins who has a tree has himself rather than the Richard I was looking for (wrong birth place), it's all very confusing everyone is called Richard! When you search for a Richard Hopkins born in 1949 in Reading Richard Wood is the only one with him on his tree. Unless I am being silly here and missing something obvious!
Thanks for your help though!

Now I know it may sound stupid but I see your surname is Wood...is it not your fathers tree? or just a coincidence

That membership number is approx 9 years old

Edit - Maybe not then as you have mentioned your fathers name on another thread.

Hello Ruth,

This is a hard one, but a process of elimination is the best method from assessing your request.

There is a Richard Hopkins born 1949 in Reading as a member in his own right.
So if Richard Wood is no longer a member of genes then Richard Hopkins may well be able to answer your query.

There are twenty five matches to Richard Hopkins. Try to find him through "Search All Records" using his name, year of birth and Reading. That way you have started your process to make a connection.

It is the only suggestion I have.

Good luck,

Maria

I am desperately trying to find Richard Wood; he used to be a member on here and made a tree which has my father and his birth mother on, my father was adopted and we don't think many people know/knew of his existence so I am desperate to find this member and see his tree to see where the connections lie but he is not an active member now by the looks of it as the messages I have sent are unopened still (from looking in my sent box).....does anyone know of him/have permission to view his tree/have any idea of how I might try to find him? Unfortunately I know nothing much more than his name and that he has Richard Hopkins born in 1949 in Reading on his tree.

I know it's a long shot but any help would be much appreciated!
