Hello Ann-Marie. I've only just seen this thread. I'm not related to you but your grandfather Christopher Stanley Raisin is in my tree, because at some point he left his first wife and went to live with my relative Ivy Cox nee Vernon who also left her husband Frank Edward Cox. They had at least 12 children together from 1944 to 1963, all called Raisin but some registered as Cox too - they didn't marry until 1951, presumably waiting for divorces.

I say at least 12 because there's also Edward S Cox 1943 who is much nearer in age to the elder Raisin children than he is to his supposed only sister Ivy M Cox born 1938. I found this family on the 1939 register with one redacted, presumably Ivy, but Frank Cox is relegated to below his wife and daughter on the record, as if the relationship is already in trouble. In 1939 Christopher Raisin is also not with his wife but with his widowed mother, and also his daughter Rita - I can't find your father as he would be redacted (not at that address) but neither can I find his mother.

Apologies if you already know all this. I've just one other question to ask. Not only this family but others among the Vernons of Derby have huge families - I don't mean in the 19th century when this was normal, but well into the 20th century. Were they Catholic? This can't come from the original family, the Ingrams, Readings and Rainbows from rural Warwickshire who were definitely Anglican. Any information you have would be welcome.

Thanks, Chris

It seems from Ancestry records that he has married 4 times - does this fit with what you know of him?
