The Indexes show the year, then the adopted name , and next to that the year of birth of the adopted person.
I was able to trace the new name, but that was because they where adopted several years after their birth.

No the names are not cross referenced, it is in the art of elimination, there are thousands of names for each year.... An Adopted name can be found from obtaining the correct cert.

Jane - how does that work?

Are the original names cross referenced to the index with the new names?

What I'm trying to say is...if you know the birth name, can you look that up and then find the adoptive name?

The direct.gov.uk link, but it doesn't mention Microfiche.

Do you have any idea where the fiche would be held/available to view?

Although not personally effected, the information would be useful to a lot of people on GR

There is the ACR Adopted Children's Register which is open to the public on Microfiche, it holds the New Name ,Volume Number and Entry Number. The years held are from 1927 onwards....

Hi Ann-Marie,

a birth certificate is issued in the normal way PRE-adoption in the given birth name or given surname.,,,

there is also an issue certificate which legally replaces the original birth certificate AFTER/POST adoption but this is not indexed for public access or open to the public as it contains any new names/ and aslo that of the adopted parents,
